Not rum related, but a legend in Cuban tobacco farming and the face of Cubatabaco for many decades. The only Cuban tobacco farmer to have a cigar named after him.

He passed away yesterday at 91 after a long illness.

A Canadian friend of mine went to Cuba a couple months ago and he said the Robaina family welcomed him in as if he was family, showed him around the farm and he got some fresh, farm-rolled cigars from them. If you've got a Vegas Robainas in your humi smoke it in honor of a great man.

A true legend in the cigar world. I found out on the 19th, and happened to have been getting married on the 17th when it happened, and out of coincidence was smoking a VR 5th anni unicos, a cigar I will never forget. I always wanted to meet him, but alas he is in a better place.

He advocated for private farm ownership in Cuba, as it could be shown that privet farm owners had better crop yield. It was taken under advisement and now it allows for a better way of life for many farm owners in Cuba. Im not defending the govt, not my intention just stating what his life was about. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge for cigar lovers! RIP!
