I got a link to that site this morning from the developer. I wonder how many people from this site they sent it to.
While I don't want to discourage developers from building apps, I was a bit surprised at their Case Study
"Jill is enjoying her Caribbean cruise and fortunately she installed Rum Connoisseur on her iPod Touch before the trip. Once arriving in Barbados, she wanted to pick up some local rum but really didn't know which one to get. She loves Barbados rum but can only get Mount Gay Eclipse at home. Using Connoisseur, she discovers Plantation Rum...a rum she has never tried. She sets herself on a quest while docked in port to find a bottle of it. After a couple of hours, she discovers a 1991 vintage reserve bottle for nearly the same price.
Victory!
Jill can't wait to get home to open it.
For now, she will just have to lie in wait...beachside of course."
Plantation Rum isn't sold in the islands so there is no way she would ever find it on Barbados. Their previous bogus case study was about a 15 and 30 year old Coyopa Rum, which doesn't exist.
I found it ironic that I was working on a mobile version of this site when I received the note about this app.
I'm wondering why with mobile phones that can access the internet and get real information why would someone pay for an app that is less than up to date from the beginning.

I had an opportunity to look at this app this afternoon and was surprised that they took the initiative to copy so many graphics and descriptions from this website and other websites that are copyrighted. It was also distinctive that they listed a number of rums as being made on islands that just don't make those rums. Hopefully they will improve their idea of content in the next version update.

alas, I was in the Mac store this weekend and couldn't figure out how to turn the new tablet pc they have around. The wife had to show me after 5mins. Im sticking to this site and a glass in hand, which doesn't leave another hand for other devices.glass.gif

Appreciate your comments regarding this new Rum app, haven't seen it yet personally. It's unfortunate that it was not adequately peer reviewed prior to its release. Checks and balances are necessary for those without an "app" for critical thinking:)

As I'm learning a lot of kids think that anything they find on the internet is theirs for the taking, but it's not just kids.
As for reviewing their app before release I think the plan was to sell as many of their apps as possible and worry about the consequences later.

Thanks for the feedback on this app. At first glance it looks like a well made resource.

I thought it was going to be something good as well until I saw that there was a lot of misinformation about rums from several islands and nearly all of the reviews we looked at were taken from other review websites including but not limited to those from Ministry of Rum forum members.
Not a very auspicious start for a software solutions company.

I think the app is great, have a database offline is incredible!
