Tonight I thought to try a couple of cachacas head to head. These two are in the same general price range (and the only ones carried at the nearest good liquor store).
Aroma:
Cigana wins easily with the aroma of sugar cane flowers, lemon, and a hint of vanilla. Balanced.
Big nose. La Loca smells strongly of must, molasses, and overripe banana.
Taste:
Cigana again ahead. Smooth, floral, but not too sweet. Lots of mid tones with a few high notes.
Sour, smokey. La Boca needs to brush her teeth after smoking. But she did use a mouthwash... fruity with a chemical aftertaste.
Finish:
Boca Loca`has a lovely rich smokey linger that just sits there asking you to try another taste.
Cigana vanishes with a suggestion of mint.
Overall:
I might serve Cigana as an introduction to someone that had never tried cachaca... as an alternative to a light rum.
Don't know if I would buy another Boca Loca.
