Was wondering if anyone has any information on
Blackheart Premium Spiced Rum as seen at LiquorSnob (http://www.liquorsnob.com/archives/2010/02/get_your_joan_jett_on_with_bla.php)?

As mentioned there, the BPSR website still isn't
working but I thought someone here might know
a thing or two.

Heaven Hill press release here (http://www.heaven-hill.com/pr-recent.shtml?article=MTA0MTBzdXBlcjEwNDA3c2VjcmV0M TA0MTQ%3D).

The website is now live - blackheartrum.com (http://blackheartrum.com/) - but still no sign of
this in my area. Anyone spot it on the shelves yet?

By the way, this isn't Black Heart rum (New Zealand) but the new
spiced rum from Heaven Hill.

from what I've seen on the site...this looks stuff pretty gimmicky...

I'd be curious to know what you think once you find your bottle.

the bottle reminds me of one that I saw in a liqour store in the U.S. It was a spiced rum, 94 proof with a skull wearing a WW2 era US Air Force cap and sunglasses...

Wonder if this is going to be a new marketing trend....

Last I heard, Black Heart (NZ) was leaving the UK market. This one is new to me as well.

It's being imported/distilled/or distributed in my neck of the woods. Bardstown is in the heart of bourbon country, and Heaven Hill is apparently trying to diversify.

Heaven Hill has imported, blended and/or bottled a number of rums over the years, Blackheart is their latest.

In a nutshell, Blackheart is a 93-proof answer to Sailor Jerry, only it isn't as good.

It sells for the same price as Captain Morgan, but it is much higher in proof, obviously. It is more than a little gimmicky, but I can't blame Heaven Hill for wanting to snag a percentage of the spiced rum pie. I've tried it, it isn't awful. Heck, given a choice between Blackheart and Captain Morgan, I'd take the Blackheart every time.

In my store, for $1.00 more, you can buy Sailor Jerry and go home happy.

The Heaven Hill folks do make some fabulous and great value products (just think Rittenhouse 100), so I'd expect them to top the Sailor in first product and of course branding. That it's a too obvious rip is surprising. I guess I'll reserve judgement until I (if ever) taste it.

Well, I was able to obtain a bottle from an on-line vendor.
Have yet to open it as I'm still floored by the rebate offer
that came with the bottle - there was a hang tag on the
neck for a $10. rebate on a 750 ml bottle. Ten bucks!!
The bottle only cost $12.99 so you really can't beat that.

Would like to suggest anyone planning to pick up a bottle
to keep an eye out for that rebate offer tag. The expire
date listed is 2/1/11 so there's plenty of time to send it
in.

OK... we tried it. Not bad....i will say that its better than regular Capt Morgan and maybe edges Sailor Jerry a little too. There was a flavor in it I couldnt put my finger on. I had to taste it a few times and still I couldnt identify what I was tasting...something very familiar. It was quickly identified by my better half after her first taste....this Rum tastes like the old candy BOTTLECAPS! On further tastes she is right!! It really does taste like the old cola bottlecaps from when I was a kid!!
Wow..its not my favorite rum but at 11.49 and a 10$ rebate...its pretty damn tasty!! Anyone else get that sugary bottlecap taste?

I just picked up a bottle of this - $11 followed by a $10 rebate, so certainly the cheapest bottle I've ever purchased. Haven't yet opened it, but CycloneX's experience gives me some hope. My expectations otherwise weren't very high at all.

I picked up a bottle of Blackheart a few weeks ago on a whim, and I gotta tell ya - not bad. I tried it mixed with cola, straight; and the preferred way I found was with a few cubes of melting ice. It seemed to mellow it out a bit. Not a harsh finish but the water blended with it nicely. I'm not too acquainted with the cola bottle caps but the smell reminded me of cherry, bubble gum or Dr. Pepper. Not sure which. Anyway, the price $12.99, the rebate $10.00. Can't beat it.

Just picked up a bottle of this stuff. Can't wait to give it a go once I get back home.

Got a bottle several weeks ago and have tried it several times. must agree that it is better with ice to water it down. Like sailor jerry with coke but not by itself . do not care for blackheart mixed with a coke.
