London and New York are generally considered the two cocktail cities of the world. In the US, San Francisco has to be on the list of top cities, but don't overlook Atlanta in the top five cocktail cities in the US.
A few of my favorite places to enjoy a cocktail are:
TROIS, I met Eric when he was tending bar at the Pegu Club.
Ecco
POSH this restaurant recently opened in what was a very nice restaurant.
FROGS for some great tequila, some very good rum drinks and Mexican food.
Apre Diem a well-stocked bar with good direction
Joey Dee's great food and a very impressive selection of rum, tequila, bourbon, scotch and other spirits
EUGENE take time for lunch and save room for a cocktail
Thrive a new place that serves a Martinique Safari, rhum agricole blanc, gruava nectar, sugar cane syrup and White Star champagne

I'm doing a business day-trip to Atlanta next week. Can anyone recommend a liquor store that has a good rum selection? I'd like to look for any good rums that are hard to find in Massachusetts - which is a lot of them.

Depends where you are in the city. If you're in the northside of downtown, Green's on Ponce de Leon is probably your best bet. It's been some time since I've been there, so I can't 100% say that they've got a great rum selection in particular, but when I used to go there regularly they had a pretty varied selection of just about everything, so I think they'd be a good bet. Other than that, let me know and I can try to recommend something depending on where you'll be.
I'm glad to see Atlanta on this list. Of all the places Edward named, I've only been to Apres Diem, but I can vouch for them as a great after-dinner place. Excellent deserts and wide alcohol selection. Cafe Intermezzo is another good after-dinner kind of place with an extensive alcohol menu. Trois, Eno, and Joey Dee's Oak Room all have very good reputations around here. It all depends on what you're looking for.
If you have any questions about the city or places to go just post in this thread and let me know Scottes, and I'll try to get back to you.

Mac's Midtown (http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&rlz=1T4GGIC_enUS215US215&q=macs&near=Atlanta,+GA&radius=0.0&latlng=33748889,-84388056,15938202950493413412&sa=X&oi=local&ct=authority&cd=2) on about 10th and Peachtree is a good bet. I've added the Google maps link since there are more Peachtrees than peach trees in Atlanta.

Thanks for the recommendations!
Joflow, I will actually be quite north of the city, near the intersections of 400 and 285 right by the Perimeter Mall. Of course I'll be driving (almost) by Green's on the way to and from the airport...
