The bar inside the Bristol Hotel (one of the very finest in Central America) hosted me to taste some of the 84 different rums they have in the bar. The bar is very elegant and relaxing. The manager and bar staff was incredibly gracious and provided me the opportunity to try whatever rum I wanted. Some of them a very rare. They have a large two page menu just for their rum.
Of course the first that caught my eye was the Bacardi 8 Millennium in the leaded crystal decanter with gold trim. It listed for $40 a shot and was priced when their bottle only cost them $450. I found a bottle of it in country at a high end shop and it was a cool $1000 USD. So the shot would be a good deal even if I had paid for it. I also did a side by side comparison with normal Bacardi 8 which was interesting!
My next selections were the Ron Zacapa XO 25 year old, the Ron Centenario - Fundacion XX Años, Havana Club Barrel Proof, and a few others I can't recall off hand.
If you find yourself in Panama be sure to look them up. The restaurant was also incredible.
