for 23 bucks yesterday
I've about finished my bottles of RZ23, Zaya, Appleton Estate Reserve and Pampero. Where might this fit in flavor-wise with those?
Thanks in advance

The Cruzan Single Barrel is very different from all of the rums which you listed. The Z23 is quite a bit sweeter than the Zaya or Pampero, all of which, remarkably smooth easy sippers. The Appleton Reserve is a purely Jamaican style rum, full of body with bite. The CSB is more toned down than the Appleton with NONE of the sweet flavor of the other 3. It's a good rum, not a head-turner, though.

I gotta say I like what Cruzan has been doing lately.
To me they came a long way in 2009 - except the new blackstrap bottle...please bring back the old one.

I have to agree with you on this one Liesure Master. I really like what they did with their packaging...except for the Blackstrap.
I think the SB is fine rum. It is vastly different from the others you have mentioned for the reasons already stated. It seems that you got it for a great price. It goes for about $30 in my neck of the woods. I think you'll enjoy it as change of pace sipper...neat or with a little ice.
I am also a fan of Cruzan's Aged White. I am hearing some good things about their 151, but I have been unable to get my hands (and lips) on it yet.
I think I need to plan a road trip to Shopper's Vineyard.

I think Ed mentioned that the new SB bottle also came with a new flavor profile versus the old. Somewhere between the old SB and Estate Diamond. I really enjoyed the old SB (admit I have not tried the new yet) not only for what I saw as a unique flavor versus other rum, but I also thought the bottle stood out well too. The new Cruzan bottles give a more modern look, but I think they also give the mass produced feel to the rum. Seems to be the same bottle design with slight differences to the label for the different styles. I don't mind change I just think the new bottles "cheapen" the look. As a disclaimer I am a big fan of Blackstrap and the old bottle too. I also will keep Cruzan in business by making sure I am repeat consumer for the future regardless of the bottles.

I've tried the old and loved it. From my memory (because Im at work)...
soft leather nose, nice intro bite but not too much, vanilla orange cream taste, creamy, with medium body.
Heavier than a PR rum and without the strong bite, but A LOT less sweet than the z23 and venezuelan beauties. No full bodied zesty jamaican either. A taste all its own!
