The Berling Rhum saga took another turn for me on Christmas Eve. While working late in our new retail store (well actually having a few Xmas cocktails with other members of staff) a customer started talking about Haitian Rhums. It turned out he new a great deal about Berling Rhums and the owners of the company, so knowledge was exchanged and a bottle of their finest rhum was promised.
Sometime later in the evening the same customer returned to the store bearing a wooden box with the Berling name burnt into the side. Inside the box was a gold coloured velvet bag which was hiding a ten year old bottle of Berling Vieux Labbe Vieux Rhum 10 Ans D'age. What a pleasant surprise. Obviously myself and other staff wanted to sample this fine looking package. Some clean wine glasses were found and a generous portion was poured for a quick sample.
The nose reminded us of a fine French Cognac and certainly the taste lived up to the nose. An amazing rhum of the finest quality and so smooth to drink.
It was time to hide the bottle before anymore would be given away and saved for my collection.
This bottle is numbered 0847. This is the rhum I had been after for a long time, but had only managed to acquire the white and gold label versions of the rhum. This offering is far superior. I am now working on a regular supply of this fine rhum.

Sounds like a xmas miracle to me! Was this a recent bottling or one we had to knock the dust off? I must admit that it might be a challenge to find more of this but if somebody can do it, its the rumelier!cheers.gif

Ron, I'm not sure, but I have the guys e-mail address and I am about to send him an e-mail to thank him. Apparently he is of Haitian descent, so maybe he will be able to bring some more in. He also has a business here, so hopefully he has regular imports from Haiti. We would love to be able to sell this and their other rhums if possible. It would be a great addition to our portfolio and one I'm sure other MoR members would like to trade for!!glass.gif

I didn't know that there were export quantities of that rum available, even in Haiti. I was offered some of that a few years ago in the DR and found it to be very good and much drier than the local rum we had been drinking.

Ron, I have not received a reply to my e-mail, but I will update here if I get any positive news. Berling do have a Facebook page aswell as their website.
I would love to trade if I can get my hands on more.

No worries Rumelier, I know you've also been busy with the new place. Hope all is going well. Haiti in general is one of those mysteries to me. From your sight I like reading about the clairin, barbancourt, and the berling. The last two I am always up for learning more about.
