The Berling Rhum saga took another turn for me on Christmas Eve. While working late in our new retail store (well actually having a few Xmas cocktails with other members of staff) a customer started talking about Haitian Rhums. It turned out he new a great deal about Berling Rhums and the owners of the company, so knowledge was exchanged and a bottle of their finest rhum was promised.
Sometime later in the evening the same customer returned to the store bearing a wooden box with the Berling name burnt into the side. Inside the box was a gold coloured velvet bag which was hiding a ten year old bottle of Berling Vieux Labbe Vieux Rhum 10 Ans D'age. What a pleasant surprise. Obviously myself and other staff wanted to sample this fine looking package. Some clean wine glasses were found and a generous portion was poured for a quick sample.
The nose reminded us of a fine French Cognac and certainly the taste lived up to the nose. An amazing rhum of the finest quality and so smooth to drink.
It was time to hide the bottle before anymore would be given away and saved for my collection.
This bottle is numbered 0847. This is the rhum I had been after for a long time, but had only managed to acquire the white and gold label versions of the rhum. This offering is far superior. I am now working on a regular supply of this fine rhum.
