Help with Appleton Estate ceramic jug

I was moving boxes in my parents basement and in one of the boxes was some old liquor bottles from the 70's. There were 2 boxes of 12 year old Appleton Estate rum in ceramic jugs. They are 4/5 of a quart and have never been opened. My parent told me they are from the 70's and I assume this to be true because next to the jugs there was an unopened bottle of Crown Royal that has two tax stamps that say 1973 and the price tag on the box say $10.39. They said they got them when they went to Jamaica years ago.


Is there any way to tell how old these jugs are? Also how much are these now worth? My uncle goes to Jamaica twice a year and brings back bottles of Appleton reserve because they are only $10 at the airport and I think there about $30 in the states. He told me that they haven't made these ceramic jugs in 20 years.


Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You should post pictures to give us a better idea of the bottles.
I was going to suggest that someone start a "post your jugs!" thread, but I have the terrible feeling that 1) it would be taken the wrong way, and 2) it would quickly deteriorate into bad taste, so I'm not going to make that suggestion.

But if someone ELSE wants to make that suggestion... :D

In all seriousness, though, it is my understanding that one should exercise EXTREME caution when opening old ceramic containers of spirits, as the spirit within can leech lead out of the ceramic over time.
