Hey there,
I'm new to this forum and an avid rum lover. In a week were leaving for a cruise in the caribbean to:
St.Kitts - Dominica - St. Lucia - Barbados - Grenada - Curacao - Aruba
As with other trips in the past I'd like to take a good local rum with me, maybe something that isnt available on the European market. Stuff that the locals like to drink is highly preferred. I can buy up to 3 bottles of Rum and I'd like to know, if you have any recommendations for hidden gems on those islands that are not too pricey.
Thanks in advance!

If you take a look at the country maps on this site or scroll down the list of distillers / blenders on the producers page on this site (http://www.ministryofrum.com/rumindex.php) you'll get a good idea of what is available.
None of the rums from Dominica are exported. Only one is exported from Grenada and so the story goes. Almost all of the islands you mention have local rums that aren't exported. Some aren't exported because there isn't much of a market for the rum outside that island, others because it takes a lot of time, money and experience to successfully export alcohol products.
Whatever you find, however, will be worth more in memories than it costs when you get back home.

I'd go check out St. Nicholas Abbey (Barbados)

The 2 best Grenadian rums are Westerhall Plantation, and Clarke's Court Old Grog.
If you have nothing planned for your day in Grenada, make a trip to the north of the island and visit River Antoine where you can see them making overproof rum - but don't buy any before you've tasted it .
If you really want something that the locals drink in huge quantities, try ESAField in Barbados. This is the best-selling rum in Barbados and I don't think that it's exported.

I second RRI.
One of the best tours I've had and the rum is on top of my list.
Here's a write up I did on Refined Vices.

I would definitely put St Nicholas Abbey and River Antoine on your agenda. You can make it to River Antoine by local bus if you get going as soon as you land in St Georges. Like any distillery, the earlier you get there the better you chance of seeing things in operation. Most of the work at distilleries is done in the morning or early afternoon. Late in the day is for clean-up and getting ready for the next day.
