I've searched the database and the forums, but I can't seem to find exact info on this Bacardi 1873.

I'm confused since there seems to be a 'Bacardi 1873 Solera', but no mention of the first. Any ideas?

My only time seeing this bottle was at a restaurant a mile away from the distillery in PR, but I didn't get any info on it. For what its worth its discontinued and I think it was the predecessor to the 8 anos.

In our neck of the woods it is known as Ron Bacardi 1873 Solera, made in Mexico. It's quite good, actually.

Years ago it was made and bottled in Puerto Rico, like the Aсejo, which is now bottled in Mexico. When it was made in Puerto Rico I was told that it was blended to taste like a whisky, which it did. And it used to have the word Solera on the label, but like I've written elsewhere, I've only seen one solera aged rum and that was a modified solera system.

Yes! In my post, I really meant "Solera????"! JTR.gif

We used to have it in Quebec, but now it seem discontinued. It's pretty good actually and it was one of the cheapest we could get here. Way better than their gold version.

When it dissappeared here it was replaced with the Reserve, I remember it being a very dry rum.

Thanks for all the great info.

Looking at the stocks on the website there doesn't seem to be many left accross the province. It probably is discontinued like many of you said.

It is very well priced (7$ less than ''8''). Do you think it's worth picking up?

I picked up a bottle of this last weekend at one of my locals for $18.99. It's a very good rum IMO and quite sippable. Seeing as this one may be discontinued I will probably pick up a couple more, it's the best sub-$20 rum I've had.

Nice score, I've gotten some email from Canada asking about it, Atlanta's a bit of a drive for some rum, but . . .

How does it compare to Bacardi 8?

I haven't had the Bacardi 8 yet, the store I purchased it from has the 8 as well so I may have to pick that up to compare.

I don't think it's the same as we had in Canada, unless the package was made different for out market. There's no mention of solera ageing on ours. I dunno...

We have this rum on the shelves in Maryland. I first had it in Cancun. It does make a fair sipper, and at about $18 here, it is a very good premium mixer. Good enough to slightly redeem Barcardi in my eyes.
