During an excursion into the Barcelo destillery Quisqueya (near Juan Dolio) I managed to taste their new "Barcelo Gran Platinum".

I was told this rum was developed to be competition to the vodka. It was introduced to the market in August (if i understood well) This rum is aged 4 years. For me the rum had really strong alcohol smell. I have to say it reminded me on cheap vodka from supermarkets. The taste was also very vodka like with a hint of sugar cane and lemon at the end.

What do you think about this rum? Has anybody tasted it yet?

Up until a few years ago Barcelo had marketed a Gran Anjeo Blanco which stated aged four years. I remember it as being very good.

I'll be interested to see where this new iteration shows up and how it tastes. Thanks for the heads up!glass.gif

Yikes!

I`ll be honest here. Based on that description, I think I will pass! I guess there is a saddle for every horse but I just don`t see the point.

(Then again I never really understood the point of vodka.) glass.gif

I was just in a new store today in Queens NY.
They had the Gran platinum next to the old Blanco.
The Blanco is one of my favorite whites.
The Blanco was on sale for TWO bottles for $20.00, and The Plat (one)for $17.00.
Must be trying to get rid of the old and then stock the new???
Have to go back and get one to try, i wanted to research it here first.
