Hi All,
I have several name brand Rums, which state the origin of production as- "British West Indies".

AlthoughI I believe they are "too dark/sweet/viscous to be unadulterated with caramel, and other enhancements, i still realy enjoy sipping these neat. so "rummy" tasting.

I do own and love many 'real' premium products, and can see the difference.
So, does anyone aboard know this process? I imagine it's basiclaay the same bulk sold to various bottlers, and they name it and sell it as thier own.
(They do all taste rather similar).

The labelbacks usually identify a country, but say the botteling was from BWI stock.
Some examples are-Trader Vics Dark, Whalers dark, Lahaina, and a few others.

Actually if blindfolded, i don't know if I'd be able to tell you which one i was drinking.
Is it quality Rum, or, cheap bulk stock, enhanced as with whatever?

Either way, i enjoy them all.

The only product you list that I've tried is the Whaler's. To my taste, this is a medium (or lesser?) quality rum with molasses (not caramel) added. Like you, I really enjoyed it. Pity I can't get it here (Ohio recently delisted it!).

No actual facts on the production though. I would be interested to hear from anyone with any facts on this as well.

Good post!

Ken

Neatdrinker, it's a little of both, quality cheap bulk stock rums. Like you, I find them to be my guilty pleasures. I always have in the back of my mind that, if times get tough, I'll still have good dram waiting for me! cheers.gif

I think the rums mentioned are likely products made up of blends of stock owned / sourced by Cruzan.
