I'm on my way to Boston after the New York Ministry of Rum Festival. I'm looking for a friendly bar where I can meet some of the forum members. I'll be in Boston Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Any ideas?

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it up there for T, W, or Th. night. I wish that I could. However the wife and I were going to check out Rumba over colombus day weekend. Its by the waterfront so it might be a little pricey but hey, its a rum bar so they will have selection.

For me, selection is only the beginning of the story. If the bar staff doesn't know what to with the bottles on their shelf, I'd rather settle for a cold draft beer than be served a poorly-made cocktail.

I have to agree. In fact, most of the time when I will have cocktails at my house or over a friends because of the lack of knowledge on the bars end. In many ways the worst thing that happened to the mojito is that it became popular.

Ed,

When are you here in Boston? Were you talking about the past three days (29/30/1)?? If so, I am sorry I missed you. If it is next week, etc, I'd be happy to meet you somewhere for some rum and conversation!

>>>ah, just looked up the NY MOR festival and see that it is next week (10/5) I'd be happy to get together sometime while you are here. We'll have to see what we can put together.<<<

Ed,

I'd be happy to meet you at Drink, which is easily one of the top (if not the top) classic cocktail bar in Boston. They open at 4PM, which is a great time to get there before it gets busier.

Or Craigie on Main. Tom is another top notch bartender. Awesome food, too!

Ed,

Checked with the boss (at home!) Looks like I am good for Wed evening if that works for you. How about everybody else?

I'm going to be doing a trade tasting with my friend Eric Seed at Drink on Wednesday afternoon. If you're in the trade send me an email to RSVP.
I don't have plans yet for Wednesday evening but I'm open to suggestions, but I can't make it late as it's a school night.

Ed,

I would love to meet up any of those nights. Unfortunately, I don't know of a particularly good place to drink rum here in Boston. But I agree that there are some places that will certainly know what to do with what they have -- Drink, Craigie, Eastern Standard, Hungry Monther come to mind. It would also be great to meet other rum lovers in town, so just name the day, time, place, and I'll be there...

Ok, so we were not able to meet this time. I know there is great interest to meet and greet Ed. Maybe next opportunity something more fixed (but not so formal) can be set up.
In the meantime are there enough Boston area members of the Ministry of Rum to have a get together here in Gloucester? I'll host at my Distillery, but will need a lot of imput on set up and agenda.
Maybe we can prototype here on the forum for other gatherings. Hopefully at other craft distilleries across this nation.
As my friend Chris Weld of Berkshire Mountain Distilleries says "Think Global, Drink Local" .
Ed, do you think this would deserve a new thread.
Cheers,
Bob

Hi Bob - glad to see you here on the MoR website!

I was one of those folks you met at the tiki event at Lake George a couple of weeks ago. The Saturday night rum tasting was one of my highlights from the event.

I live in NY now, but will likely be returning to MA (and Glouster specifically) to visit family over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Will you be open for tours on that Friday or Saturday? I think I can arrange for some rum-loving folks to come by and visit if you are. Take care.

Sorry I wasn't able to arrange a forum members meeting during this trip. feel free to start a new thread for another meeting at a distillery or wherever we can do it.

The next time I come to Boston I hope to have a smarter phone so I can use Twitter more efficiently.

Leisure Master,
That was a fun event. I was impressed with the whole sense of community.
My son Doug was the face of our company at the tasting. He did not look too worse for the wear on Sunday.
Yes we will be here over Thanksgiving. I look forward to your visit. Let me know further details on www.ryanandwood.com .
RonJames,
We will work on it.

Cheers,
Bob
