So I am putting on an event next week entitled 'The Captain's Dilemma: Rum v Whisky, which one would you save?'
It's a light hearted debate with myself and the Appleton Estate brand ambassador here in NZ on the side of rum up against a whisky shop owner and The Glenlivet brand ambassador for NZ.
Was wondering if you lovely rum drinking folks out there had any advice or ideas as to how we can take the aged vodka lovers down and put rum where it deserves to be, at the top!
Cheers

Welcome to the for-rums. My advice, since you ask for it, is to forget the vodka drinkers, most of the boutique vodka drinkers are more interested in the bottle than the contents.
There are a number of converted whiskey drinkers here on the forums, not that whiskey is a bad drink, but like Trader Vic wrote more than 50 years ago, rum is the most under-rated spirit behind the bar. It still is.
On the other hand, look at the price of the boutique whiskeys and it's enough to make you not want to talk about great rum for fear that it too will become the drink of the financial elite. I certainly hope not.

Cutlass and grapeshot usually works, if not the cat of nine tails. We're pretty simple folk here, join or walk the plank. Who said free choice was dead?g()fy Actually show rum ads and how they show people (and gorgeous women) having a good time. I don't know too many women that drink wiskey so there ads do tend to be more boring. Rum wins!

Here's some info about the event, it's going to be quite something and I can't wait for it.

For me, whisky is a fine drink, but nothing comes close to the history, the flavours, the romance and feel good factor of rum.
I'll post photos and a review of the event when it's over.
