10 days in Jamaica

Vacationing for 10 days early this September. Planning on hitting the Appleton Estate Tour. Making my way down the coast from Montego Bay-Negril-Treasure Beach. Several questions for any veterans, previous visitors..

Any recommendations on cool bars, smooth drinks, knowledgeable bartenders or jerk shacks I shouldn't miss?

If I were to bring home some rare and/or good value bottles of rum, what would I search for?

Has anyone shipped packages via DHL from Jamaica to USA or Canada??

Any comments appreciated...

If you do not have a place to stay, try this site negrilonestop.com....good people and lots of places to review and all with good pictures on the website . In Negril, we never do all inclusives, but there are many choices..with great food (cheap) and lots of great bars......either beach or cliffs...We stay on the cliffs at Tensing Pen mostly but have stayed a numerous places over the years.

Yes Aqua has a serious rum bar, I plan on trying in November...over 50 types of rum, . If you are in need of a driver (I would not ever suggest renting a car) I can provide a great and safe one...and he does great tours into the mountains, Treasure Beach area...and to Appleton, Black river or the Pelican Bar. Feel free to email me for more info.

Had a blast in PR. It was hard work being right after Miami, but well organized and worth the trip. Might try and get to Negril next summer, taking the rugrats to Orlando this summer, then off to Cayman to see some rum underwater!! Are you still on the Edwin Charley? I have yet to crack mine, now have 3 of the 4. Trying to get it here, but W&N won't sell it to us yet.

They are worth collecting if anyone is going to Jamaica. Their cheaper line is not bad either. Next time I go I will have to raid Ken at Aqua's collection. I know it is his favourite rum, and I see it on the back bar in the photos on the website!!

Hi, Great news about P.R. We do have the Edwin Charley...AND people are sampling it, despite the price. "Virtue" is as delicious as it is pretty! Let us know when you are coming.

The Edwin Charley Proprietor's are limited edition rums from Wray and Nephew that come in a beautiful handblown glass bottle, two gold and two white. The Foundation, The Transformation, The Enlightenment and The Virtue. They are not cheap, anything up to US$100+. They also have a cheaper range of rums that are pretty tasty too. See link below:-

We have been going to JA every year since 2004. We tied the knot in Negril. By far Sangster's Jamaica Rum Cream is my fave. Someone suggested we try it and I fell in love with it. I find the smell of alcohol/whisky (light and dark) to be offensive. But the rum cream is very pleasant to smell and taste. We visited the Appletons Rum Factory. It was nice to physically walk thru the process and get to taste the molassas and taste all those rums. MMMMMMMMMMMMM

We always bring home extra bottles of Sangsters Jamaica Rum Cream, Appleton Estate V/X, and Wray & Nephew Coco Mania (Coconut Jamaica Rum). I also liked the Banana flavored rum cream. We mixed the coconut rum with fruit punch and made a wonderful cool drink.

Our local spirits store stocks limited Jamaican rums. I have to order via internet to reaggetreats.com and that is expensive.

Planning on returning October, 2009 for a week.

We did the Appleton Estate Tour it was educational and the free rum tasting at the end of the tour was awesome. There is an awesome restaurant in Negril near the center of town Sweet Spice mmmmm good and on the beach is the Bourban Street Jerk Shack. On the north end of Negril is Rick's Place totally tourist trap. But the view is nice. Never shipped from there but ordered on line, shipping costs are very high. I'll be there in October, enjoy yourself mon. One People, One Love.
