Just a reminder, Rum Bar now with over 150 different rums!
But the main reason for this post, Philly is slowly getting more and more bars with rum selections beyond the usuals. Perhaps it is my doing in getting many products involved with the control state of PA, but check out:
Apothecary
Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co.
Theyve each got a decent selection of rums (J.M., Flor de Cana, El Dorado, Montecristo)

Hi Adam,
I was at your place one and half years ago with three new Rummy prospects. Your manager treated us like kings with a sit down and great rum conversation. I wish I could remember his name but was about 30. Afterwords went the latin meat market next store and appreciated even more the fine tx at the Rum Bar.

I think it was probably Ben as he said the owner was young as well. I only wish I got there more often. Best wishes with the business.

Congratulations on building a reputation for the Rum Bar. As your customers know, there is a lot more to having a great selection than the rum itself. If the staff is clueless about the products on the bar you might as well being pouring cheap beer.

One thing Ive learned is that it is very difficult to find a bartender that is able to not just learn all about rums, but to understand rums. I give my whole staff Dave Broom's book to read. That book made it easy for me to understand.

Hi Adam -
Greetings from Seattle! I will have to check out your recommendation on Broom's book. I agree with Ed's comments on bartenders and a strong working knowledge of rum vs a long list or rum on a menu.. had a rather disappointing experience about this exact topic in Vegas's Rum Jungle. Hope the Rum Bar is in full force as I may be headed over to Philadelhia in October; would be great to see you guys again..over some rum of course
Cheers,
Nick

Hey Nick! Didnt think you could find another reason to get back to the Philadelphia area! When in October? October seems to be Rum Month, what with all the Rum Fests goin on.

I think you are right, October is a solid Rum month and fits the part with Halloween, it brings to mind pirates, rums maids serving you proper ...I'll stop here. East coast travels are still in the works...planning on meeting my brother in law in West Virginia and making a trip North to Phili - if I can manage hitting the MoR Fest in NY October 5th that would be sweet! ...keep you updated
