Typical! I leave the country for 5 minutes and Waitrose lower all their prices.

I picked up a bottle of the Chairman's Reserve, but passed on the El Dorado 5 year old on the basis that I've already got about 20 bottles of mixing rum to work through first. But then I discovered that the ED5 is supposed to be one of the best value rums around, so perhaps I missed a trick there.

Waitrose seem to be in the process of changing their rum range, and whilst they have in the last 12 months added English Harbour 5 yo, Cockspur 12, and more recently El Dorado 5 and Santa Teresa Gran Reserva to name a few, it looks like Barbancourt 5 Star may have bitten the dust. I know Barbancourt are currently rebranding their range, so that may explain their absence from Waitrose's shelves, but hopefully the absence won't be permanent.

It would be nice if they'd stock a few more higher end rums too, as I feel they carry too many bog-standard "mixing" rums which don't really stand out from the crowd. Having said that, Waitrose is the only UK supermarket which seems to take the rum sector seriously.
