Hi everyone

I Recently tried the Sea Wynde Pot Still rum but i dont know if itґs only me but I really dislike the flavor

In the back the bottle says: One sip will spoil you for all other rums, I really think so, very distintintive flavor, i canґt even tried again

In the mouth feelґs like Metal, Oil, somekind of steel, I feel like i have a hot spoon on my mouth

Someone has tried this rum

Hmmmm....you've got me curious now.

I have a bottle of SW that I have not sipped in a while, but I don't remember hating it.

Will report back soon on this very important mission - anything for science!!

A lot of people hate it. Have not tried it myself and have no real interest in trying it either.

i depends, there are differing batches out there, and i have had both..

One that was OK (not bad, but not amazing) and one that was horrible. Also i have heard of good batches... so who knows..

OK, I'm sitting at home with a short glass of the SW Pot Still.

I must have really blocked something out here - you're going to have to change the title on this thread - I really don't like it much either.

The rum is a pale gold in color. Bananas and a bit of vanilla on the nose, but in general a thin nose even with some pretty good swirling in my rum glass.

A LOT of burn on the attack - much more than I thought even for a 92 proof. The burn dissipates to leave a somewhat harsh medicinal taste that becomes quite grassy/earthy/minerally on the finish. Nicole said it left a final taste in her mouth like she had been "licking metal".

Maybe the Jamaica & Guyana rums are fighting too much in there...

...anyone wanna buy a slightly used bottle of rum...?

I had a bad bottle once that tasted "burned". The bottle which I have now is delightful. Certainly, there is a good deal of variance between runs.

If anyone hasn't yet checked out the Dood's hilarious review of Sea Wynde, please do so:

Sea Wynde, the only bottle that ever beat me.

I will say this though: While I would never EVER sip that stuff neat again, I was able to find one way in which I could use it, actually suggested to me by Martin Cate. The stuff actually works in a mai tai (http://rumdood.com/archive/2009/01/26/a-month-of-mai-tais.aspx).

Agree with forest's assessment. I tasted an early sample that I found somewhat metallic & harsh. A recent sample was at least more approachable.

I was interested in trying it, saw it at a bar I was in, and ordered a glass. Dreadful, and burned tasting as Wally said.

One of the funny aspects of my interest in trying everything is that I believe I am frequently trying to improve on the experience of drinking English Harbour,
or Pampero, or Mt Gay XO....or whatever. It's a mystery why I don't just stick with those under the circumstances but then, it wouldn't be a hobby, would it?
