OK i just got back from a cruise and while i was ashore in St.Maarten, i managed to find a bottle of this stuff. It was $50 US, so i took a chance. I have never purchased a true bottle of agricole (only 10 cane). The name sounded vaguley familiar but i have never seen the 2000 mellenium edition.

Also for the record this is a numbered bottle.

Anyone know anything about this one? Did I score a deal or a dud?

Thanks

I know Tiara had a rare bottle, but I think it was 12 ans and not the millenium. If you look at their site you'll get info on it, if you can read french. If not than I could ask my fiance to give it a read for you.

It is definetely the one shown second from the left. A very hefty square bottle. I just wondered if anyone tried this, or know if the $50 i paid for it was fair.

Thanks

That Saint James rhum agricole vieux label doesn't carry an age statement but I can tell you that it is a very good example of their aged rhum. The question of is it worth $50 is something that only you can answer.

I can tell you with confidence that you'll probably not find another bottle of that rhum unless you go back to Martinique and that it is different from any of the other Saint James rhums that are exported to the US or Europe.

Considering that the euro is stronger than the dollar, I would consider $50 a fair price. If you're going to drink it and aren't familiar with aged rhum agricole I'd suggest trying some others before you open that bottle so you can appreciate the depth of character that you'll find in that rhum.

Can you sell it today and pay for your trip to Martinique? Probably not, but value, like beauty, is often in the eye of the beholder.

I would have paid the 50, no problem. After Ed's post, I really would love to try it.

50$ is a good price

It is one of their top cuvée and will only be produce once...vintage!

they also produce a 12yrs in very small quantity..I got a bottle but i didn't open it yet!

they just lauched a single cask 1998.

But in general it is not a fantastic distillery...

Neisson, Depaz and JM are the best!

cheers

Mammel: 2000 was a vintage year for wine and for the people on the planet why not rhum. The Millenium now marks a time of innocence Pre-9/11 and a turning point in our collective psyche of all things that have influenced the nature of man and his appetites for life and and survival. If you enjoy the rhum and the moment it is priceless.
