View Full Version : Disneyland and Rum

I just booked a trip to Disneyland in May and was wondering if any members in the area can point me to some liquor stores with a good rum selection. I'm planning on staying in Anaheim for 4 days and then driving to Palm Springs for four days so any suggestions for those areas or anywhere in between would be welcome.

It sound's like this High Times Store that I've read about in other threads is the place to go and I'm drooling over the selection on their website, but I don't think my plans will be taking me to Costa Mesa.

It is 12 miles from D-Land to Hi Time. . . come on by.

Ask Rumdog007, he knows every store in a hundred mile radius.

I'd go for Hi-times. Good selection from what I've seen online and helpful staff.

I had no idea it was so close to Disney. My plans just changed to go to San Diego for the later part of the week instead of Palm Springs so it looks to me on the map that Hi Times is totally on the way.

Anywhere else in or on the way to San Diego that I should be looking at?

I am glad that Forrest mentioned me in this thread. I happen to be quite the authority on HiTime trivia and lore. Some of it actually does include Disneyland.

Fun facts:

1. It is exactly 16.9 miles from the top of the Matterhorn to HiTime.

2. When Walt Disney was alive, he often mentioned HiTime Wine as "The Second Happiest Place on Earth". On several occasions, he conceded that HiTime was actually #1, with Disneyland a close second.

3. 97.3% of the theme park workers shop exclusively at HiTime. On any day, "character workers", already in full costume, such as Snow White and Goofy, can often be seen buying a bottle right before their shifts. Just yesterday, Jiminy Cricket was ahead of me in line buying a 1.75L of Bacardi 151.

4. Mr. Disney is said to have been embalmed using products that Forrest has, more than once, used as cocktail ingredients.

5. Finally, parents of octuplets taking their kids to Disneyland, all at once, get a 50% discount on vodka and hip-flasks if purchased before any visit to the theme park.

I hope that this helps you with your planning. glass.gif

That has to be a candidate for post of the year!!! I can only imagine explaining that to my girls how Snow White copes with her day!!

The HiTimes stock is amazing, I made a list of over 30 rums I want although I can only bring four bottles home. I'm going to narrow this down to to 10 tonight to run by all of you for your thoughts/suggestions.
Cheers!

That one is my favorite...I can see Jiminy Cricket with his "Buy 10 get one Free" card being punched at the check-out counter while adding a few Slimjim's, a pack of Camel non filter ciggies and a couple of scratch tickets.

You crack me up rumdog007. I had to print the whole thing out and
put it up on my fridge.

i hate to correct rumdog007 (really i do. he gets violent and i have to ride in the cart for hours-- but that's another story, i don't want to tell...)

Corrections (of the Fun facts):

1. It is exactly 12.35 miles from the top of the Matterhorn to HiTime-- i checked on google maps.

2. When Walt Disney was alive . . . this may be true, i don't know?/!?!

3. 97.3% of the theme park workers shop exclusively at HiTime. . .. . . . Just yesterday, Jiminy Cricket was ahead of me in line buying a 1.75L of Bacardi 151.

There are a lot of people that work at D-Land that shop at Hi-Time (and we thank them!!) But that wasn't Jiminy Cricket that you saw in line--it was Paul Crouch.

4. Mr. Disney is said to have been embalmed using products that Forrest has, more than once, used as cocktail ingredients.

What rumdog meant was " this evening" more than once "this evening" . . . . see it makes way more sense!

5. Finally, parents of octuplets taking their kids to Disneyland, all at once, get a 50% discount on vodka and hip-flasks if purchased before any visit to the theme park.

i am not going to touch this because breeder moneys are sad, and i am going to use some of Walts embalming fluid for a cocktail!

I hoped that Vapatt is a crow and can fly. Otherwise, he's got almost 17 miles to walk, peddle, or drive. laughing.gif

lololol, I think that would be easier than explaining why the dwarves are crying and saying "We just want you to come back to the meetings" while Snow White's in the checkout line, laughing.gif This thread is still making me laugh.

Unfortunately I made a Saturday evening promise that I would take the rugrats to DisneyWorld this summer so forfeiting a rum trip south. What was I thinking??? Are there any rum attractions, good liquor stores in the Orlando area. I think they have some British pubs in the park? I'm really looking forward to millions of screaming kids (and parents), standing in long lines in the hot Florida August sun, when I could be touring another distillery and drinking some new rums, listening to soca and reggae and eating some jerk pork.
Please Help!!HMMRHMMR

Or maybe we should come to the West Coast?? Just tried that one on the wife, thank god she has a sense of humour!!

Send the rugrats on the "it's a small world after all" ride, drop the misses off to shop, then just walk up to goofy and inform him that its not water in your water bottle, and it smells mysterily like a daiquri....and if only you had some ice and a secluded place to share it with a new found goofy friend. You'll have your own little magic kingdom my friend.glass.gif

Personally I'd love a 'Rum' side trip when I'm at Disney/etc in Florida... How the wife would like that I don't know...

OK Kids Disney is over Dads off to the 'Rumisney'... Though I think I may have done this side trip before... oops.gif I think they call it pleasure island Disney...

Yeah I did Pleasure Island several years ago on a soccer tour, it was just a shame we had to play a game the next day!!
Maybe any other MOR's who might be there this summer could go the same time and we have a rum tasting, maybe I could ask Disney to host one!!!! I attended a wine course once in Orlando and went to some good bars. I'll just do a shopig tour around the lquor stores while the family go to the mall.

Part of my trip is going to include 4 days in San Diego, can anyone recommend some good stores there?

I can't wait to hit the High Times store in Costa Mesa; there are over 30 rums on their site that I'd love to bring home but sadly can only take 4 bottles.

I made 2 lists, a preferred list and budget list (in case all the extras at Disneyland kill my rum fund).

Budget List (relatively inexpensive):
-Barbancourt 8 YR (heard raves about this here, I've only tried the 15 YR)
-10 Cane (can't get it here)
-Barcelo Imperial
-Boytran 18 YR

Preferred:
-Clement XO
-El Dorado 21 YR (have all of the rest, never tried this one)
-Pussers 15 YR (wish they had the porcelan decanters as well)
-Zacapa 23 YR (not all that expensive but love to have it)

Vanpatt, you will not find anything in San Diego that is unavailable At HiTime. Well, I take that back. You can find Blind Squirrel Rum at a few stores in the Shelter Island area.

Really, though, it's not bad but not worth driving too far for a bottle! glass.gif

Thanks, I was hoping their name didn't come from the side effect of animal testing! It's an interesting read on the site about the origins of the name from a sailing race from Victoria BC to Maui.

I've got 4 days in San Diego so I can kill at least one blind squirrel while I'm there!

I would go for the Botran, Clement XO, Pussers and El Dorado....I have tried the Botran, Clement, and El Dorado on my honeymoon 3 years ago...loved them. I like Pussers but haven't tried the 15 year....the blue label is nice and heavy molasses rum so I will assume the 15 year will be much the same...:D

Just back from my trip to Southern California and had the pleasure of stopping by Hi Time in Costa Mesa. For anyone travelling in the area it's a must stop, the meca of rum in Western North America!! If I didn't have the family waiting for me in the car I think I could have spent the afternoon there.

I wanted to pass along a special thanks to Forrest for setting aside some special rums for me (it was great to meet you in person).

I managed to pick up bottles of Zacapa 23, Barcelo Imperial, Botran 18, and Pusser's 15 YR (had to leave the bottle of Mt Gay 1703 sadly as I had totally blown my budget on the kids at Disney).

Hey Rumelier,

I've done the entire Disney World thing often with my kids and I want you to know, Disney has the best Coca Cola in the world... especially when you added a little Bacardi Anejo or Ron Barcelo Blanco to it each day (transpaorted in water bottles).

Don't forget this is Hank's area and he knows where Corona Cigar store is. Remember at MOR its a small world g()fy

Thanks for the advice, good idea with the water bottle!! Hank and I have already had indepth discussions about the local liquor stores and which rums we can exchange. I had hardly got off the plane from Puerto Rico last night when the wife was asking how many nights we should stay in Orlando for!! I think I'm going to need plenty of rum to get me through thisBtmup.gif

If you are going to be at Disney, you are less than ten miles from The Corona Cigar World Headquarters: (South of Sand Lake at Dr Phillips Blvd)
7792 W. Sand Lake Rd.
Orlando, FL 32819
1-888-70-CIGAR
407-248-1212

From there you are about a mile from the best rum selection in SW Orlando.
Josephs Liquors and Fine Wine is just over a mile east of the cigar store, on the NW corner of Sand Lake Road and Universal Blvd.
6203 Sand Lake Road
Suite C2
Orlando, FL 32819
407-351-4470

They have well over 100 different rums, mostly premium ones.

I have bought a LOT of rum from them the last few years! lol
