Always looking for more information on the rum world, I read recently that India is a big rum producer.
Do you have any idea of the brands, the kind of product, quality, method of production???
Thank you for the information.
Cheers

Old Monk and Old Port Deluxe are the two I have heard of. Not tried any of them though. I think Old Monk is available all over the world and shouldn't be to hard to get your hands on.

its testing the memory banks but I seem to remember it said that Old Monk makes a great hot buttered rum...haven't tried it or the old monk though.
Apparently rum is big in India. Diageo is launching Zacapa there within the month. As for Indian rums, Old Monk and Celebration dominate the market.

Been to a few Indian food places in my day, and the Curry is nice, along with the breads.

I tasted Old Monk once. Good food, not so good rum.

I have a couple of small bottles (180ml) of a gold rum called "Bermuda XXX Original Caribbean Rum Distilled Blended and Bottled by Rampur Distillery A Unit of Radico Khaitan Ltd. Rampur (U.P.) 42.8%" and a white version of the same rum. True Caribbean rum made in Indian and named after an Island in the Atlantic!!!
For some reason it's available locally.
Fake taste, lots of Caramel. Add it to the collection.

I currently have two different Indian rums in my collection. They include No.1 McDowell's Celebration XXX Rum and Hercules Rum. Both are dark rums and should only be used as mixers. They are both fairly harsh to sip.

Khukri is Indian, of course, and gets from decent to excellent reviews, but I've never tried it. I think I once saw a bottle at Hi Times, but Forrest waved me off of it. I could be making that whole last part up.

I found a bottle of the Old Port Deluxe on Thursday. It was only $35CAD so I picked it up mostly for the novelty. I'll likely get into it later tonight. I'll let you know how it is then :)

That was the Old Monk that he waved you off, I'd bet, Lew. I've never seen the Khukri there. It's very, very good. I have to buy it in the SF Bay area.

Khukri is imported by Douglas Lougrhran in PA, of Liquid Treasures. Great stuff.
