My box of rhum arrived from Haiti last night, and I now have a couple of bottles of the Barbancourt white for summer cocktails. There is a great deal of discussion on the site about Barbancourt's aged rhums, but little about the white, so I thought I would consult the experts. glass.gif How are you using this rhum?

Ah, the aroma of raisins and banana! This is gem of a white rum. Of course, as I am always rambling about, The Daiquiri. I like to vary the taste of this drink by using different, flavorful white rums. The Barbancourt has some bite to it so it holds up well in any Tiki drink calling for a white rum. The Mrs. rumdog-ette says it makes the best piña colada that she's ever had.

I usually try a simple daiquiri first just to try to find the character of a rum, and I'm trying to learn to taste each rum neat and with a bit of water before I use it. It's funny - I always taste everything I cook with, but I don't do this so much with drinks. I'm trying to change my habits, and hopefully, my drink making will improve.
At risk of being evicted from the Ministry of Rum, I will admit that I have never had a piсa colada. I'll have to pick up that can of Coco Lopez next time I'm in the store.

It is a much maligned drink, unrightfully so. I think that the song hurt its reputation! Yes, do use the Coco Lopez. Cheers!

The Barefoot Barbancourt Blanc on the rocks is the bomb.
Barefoot Juice
11 oz coconut water (one package)
1 oz Key Lime juice (fresh squeezed)
1 oz Petit Canne cane syrup
4 drops Angostura Bitters
4 drops Angostura Orange Bitters
pour equal amounts of the rum and the juice in a tumbler half full of ice.
This drink works extremely well with Diplomatico Rum Blanco: The Barefoot Diplomat Blanco

I've been wanting to give your coconut water mix a try, but I don't have Angostura Orange bitters. I tried to find it a few months ago with no luck, so maybe it's time to give in and order online.

I've been traveling a bit, but when I've been home I've been making various drinks with the Barbancourt Blanc, and I've also been looking at reviews online. I saw various reports of bananas and mango flavors, but I don't find all the fruit that some people do. Even when sampled neat, I smelled and tasted fresh cane juice, pure and simple. The initial whiff out of the bottle sent me into a Proustian flashback to summers when I was a kid in Florida. My Grandfather used to cut up pieces of the dark purple cane for all the grandkids to chew while we sat on the trailers full of stalks watching the grinding. That's what this rum tastes like to me. Hot summers and fresh cane. I'm finding that I like this one best in a mojito or with passion fruit juice.

Thanks Linda for that mental picture! This is one of the reasons why I enjoy this forum. This is way different than I grew up, but then again not. Sugar cane is not grown in Sweden. But we do grow sugar beats. =)
Mojito with passion juice sounds delicious. I'll have to try that one!

Can Tennessee Williams be far behind? I think he would have loved your description of the Barbancourt Blanc.
It's quite amazing to me how fond childhood memories of smells and tastes can come back to greet us in venues we might never expect.

True enough.
I forgot to mention that I find this rum sweeter than other whites I've mixed, so I had to back off on the simple and other syrups I use. I was surprised by this, because the last bottle I finished, the Caсita, had a sweeter nose, but seemed to have less sugar overall.

This rhum makes great Classic and Hemingway Daquiri's. It nibbles at the tongue a little more than say, Havana Club, so it gets a smidge more syrup.

I have been really wanting to try this one. However in my area it seems to sell at not too much of a cheaper price than the other Barbancourt products, so I ended up choosing them so far.
