My wife and I went here last night for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised that the Rum menu wasn't disappointing. I took a photo of it with my cell so excuse the quality... They also have a heated covered patio that you can smoke your cigar of choice on... Also worth mentioning they have one hell of a Mac & Cheese. It was a nice place and I will be going back.

looks like almost the same selection they have in their liquor store in Park Royal. They have a couple of bottles that I haven't seen in the govt liquor stores. Matusalem Gran Reserva is a very nice sipper. I haven't tried the Cruzan Estate Diamond, but I love their Single Barrel!

BTW, I can't say that I have ever ordered Mac 'n' Cheese at a restaurant that looks like that one! Usually it is only found on the kids menu! It's a bold move to put it out as an adult entree!

Ya I love Mac and cheese Rob Feenie has it on his menu also. Its a great adult dish made with very very rich cheeses. If you loved the dish as a kid you'll love it as an adult.

My co-workers rave about the "Mac and Cheese" at Burgoo (at the bottom of Lonsdale)...don't mean to start a fight, but they say it is the BEST!

That is the best selection I've seen at a restaurant here so far; I'll have to give it a try next time I'm in the area.

I'll defintiely have to check this place out, as I work on the North Shore.

Nice find Mr. Curoswiss!

The only other place I found any other non-standard (read: bacardi-type) rums was at Havana on Commercial where they had some Matusalem.

There's also The Reef caribbean restaurant, which has two locations, one on Main, the other on Commercial. Their website drink menu mentions Barbancourt 15, Flor De Cana 12, Pyat 15, Santa Teresa 1796, Murray McDavid 14, Goslings Family Reserve. I think the older Main St location may have a couple more selections.

Man, I used to live near the Reef on Main St. and had been there a few times. Didn't know about the rum though.

I guess I'll have to head back to my old stomping grounds.

As for the food, I think its passable Caribbean fare, but have heard less than impressed opinions from friends.

This thread is bringing back good memories, I used to live at Manitoba and 15th about 7 years ago and loved hanging out a both the Reef and the Locus (and many of the other small places on Main and Cambie like the Keno Cafe). Great area! The food at the Locus was good as I recall and very healthy. I am impressed by the rum selection at the Reef.

I personally have enjoyed the food at The Reef. I've had the Ackee and Saltfish and found it to be quite good. Unfortunately I have nothing to compare it to so my opinion may not mean much. Several others I have taken to The Reef did not enjoy it as much as I did, and common review sites like dinehere.ca have mixed reviews for it as well.

Looking at their rum menu it actually seems quite poor. Everything on the list is available in local liquor stores, and none of them are too expensive to buy a bottle and try (<$30/bottle).

That said, their dinner menu looks fantastic. I'm itching to try out their paella as I haven't found a decent one in Vancouver yet (already tried Century Lounge and La Bodega).

The way our system is set up in BC, every Liquor selection is potentially available at local Liquor Stores>>stores and restaurant have to get their booze from the same source. Me saying they don't have the worst selection meant that it wasn't 8 kinds of Bacardi and a Lemonhart.
