What will be the next mojito? AKA the next big white rum cocktail that will be available at most bars/clubs? Any ideas?

My money is on the rum and coke! glass.gif
I've been noticing plenty of bars serving up "real daiquiris." I seriously hope this becomes the next white rum trend!
At the last three bars I drank at where I asked what rum cocktails they made, the first two answers were mojito and caipirinha. I'm also going to have to put my money on rum & coke topping the list :) and I would love to see daiquiris, but for a non-cola cocktail I'm gonna say caipirinha.

ok, ok. It was kind of a tough question. Better stated: What is an old out-dated cocktail that can resurge and renew this summer?

I'm not sure of the out-dated part of the qualification. The daiquiri has lost favor due to the way most daiquiris are currently being made. A good daiquiri is a great drink when made with good ingredients and, of course, good rum.
rumdog007 is probably right, though I am quietly loathe to admit it, more rum and cokes are probably going to be sold this summer, but then more were probably sold last summer as well.
Another drink that is gaining popularity is the simple 'ti punch, but there again, you need to have good rum and real sugar cane syrup to make a good one, and it doesn't require any muddling in spite of the theater than can be bestowed on its making. I believe the truth is that neither of these drinks will outsell rum and cokes. But if you're looking simply to sell the most drinks, you'll be pouring vodka and the latest energy drink.

Rum Julep would be nice for the summer. Maybe I'm still a bit biased by my time in New Orleans.

Nice one Gray.
Now if we're talking cocktails made with aged rums, the old fashioned has to be near the top of the list, sharing that position with another New Orleans favorite the Sazerac, made with aged rum.

I'd be a happy man with a nice Sazerac right about now.
I had a great Rum Old Fashioned this past weekend though. I used to make them for one of our customers when I worked in San Francisco and suddenly had a craving on Saturday.

Have you ever watched Chris McMillan make the Sazerac (with rye) on YouTube?

And, if you want the REAL treat watch his Mint Julep video!

That was great, I've never seen these before, but The Library Lounge was one of the places I would go to treat myself when I had extra cash and could afford to stray from the few dive bars where I got special prices for being a regular staple at the bar.

Rum Julep sounds great!
I thought that it is possible to make a Mint Julep with both Bourbon and White Rum? Was I wrong?

No you weren't wrong. There are people who will freak out if you try to make a Mint Julep with anything but Bourbon, but that's because the Kentucky Mint Julep is the most widely known variation on the Julep. From what I understand the earliest mention of the Mint Julep didn't even specify the liquor. I've had lots of nice variations on the Mint Julep, ginger Mint Juleps are a wonderful thing. I think you'd have to do a bit of digging to find a recipe that wasn't the Bourbon one, but the ingredients are so simple it's easy to switch up to suit your fancy.
Drinkhacker has a nice one using bourbon and floated with dark rum.

Last summer I was making "Lynchburg Lemonades" (using rum) for my wife. I made it using this horrible cheap rum we picked up in the "clearance" cart at the LQ store for $4. That was the only way I could use that stuff.

Before the Mojito is dethroned, I'd like to have just one good one. My buddy's wedding this fall was the last one I had. Trays and trays were brought out for the guests, along with cosmos all free. I drank about half of one and poured the rest in some unsuspecting/deserving plant!
I'll make it sort of a bucket list thing...where to find the best Mojito? or heck, even a decent one!

I do remember having good mojitos at the IBar in the Rio, Las Vegas last year.

Probably at your kitchen counter is where you'll find the best one.
Otherwise you need to find a decent bar that is making one to order instead of pouring it from a pre-made gallon jug.

You make a good point Rum Runner; I never make cocktails for myself.
I think I'll try try to find a "good one" first, then attempt to copy it at home>>otherwise I'll have nothing to compare it to.

The negroni is made with 1 part gin, 1 part sweet vermouth, and 1 part Camapri. Actually, several different bitter aperitifs can be used. But, by far, Camapri is most used. It is a special drink, and, an OLD recipe. I was joking around, but only in part. All of the classic cocktails are making a comeback in finer establishments.

The sooner we get rid of frozen daiquiri and margarita machines the better, I love when bars advertise that they have an "Oasis machine" and I just keep walking by.

A lot of it boils down to where you are. In the Midwest, the mojito is still all the shizzle.
But... do agree by far more rum and cokes will be served more than any other rum drink.
