Can anyone tell if this is worth while buying? This is new on the shelf here and it 's called Pampero Selection 1938. I passed it up to buy one of my favorite Rum's
Zaya Gran Reservia. I like to try new Rums but thought I'd see if I could get any remarks here. Another Rum I'm really like a lot is Pusser's, maybe it's a carry over from my tot days in the Navy we called it Nelsons Blood.

Hi, I am know nothing of that product but the Pampero Aniversario is great. It comes in a small leather draw string pouch in a little stubby bottle. I, too, love the Zaya so my guess is that you will welcome the Pampero.

Pampero Ann. is a great sipping rum, and the reserva especial is nice also.
I enjoy Pusser's blue quite a bit. I read that Pusser is about to release a 15 year old rum, and it will be available in the states. The blue is great neat, or a good measure with an ice cube is good also. As the ice melts and adds a little water, it changes the flavor.

I'd also recommend Pampero Aniversario. It is a bit less sweet than Zaya (also a favorite) and it's a fantastic rum neat; dark, complex, and incredibly smooth.

Another vote for the Pampero Anniversario. But I've never heard of the Pampero Selection 1938, and can't find much any info in English. Google lists a bunch of hits, very few in English.

Here is another vote for the Pampero Anniversary. This is one of my favorite rums...I also make sure I have a few bottles in reserve since it is hard to come by in Delaware.

...yes yes Pampero Aniversario is a nice one...

And now back to the question about Pampero Seleccion 1938 Ron Anejo.

That's what I found on a german rum-dealer web page:

"Pampero Seleccion 1938 Ron Anejo:
Dark quality rum.
The name of this Ron Anejo reminds of the foundation date of Las Industrias Pampero.
It was stored approx. 5-6 years in noble oak barrels, which were used before for Bourbon Whiskey.
The rum has an intensive, replete flavour with a harmonious soft finish.
It is ideal to drink it straight (neat) and is particularly delicious with
" El Ritual " (4 cl pure with lime, cane sugar and coffee)from Caracas."

I never heard about this so called "El Ritual" but it sounds interesting (close to the Tequila-lemon-salt drink), I'll write down the recipe
in the cocktail section.

The price in germany is approx. 30$.

I acquired a bottle of Pampero Aniversario recently and I noticed that it doesn't have the bottle number anywhere. Apparently they have had bottle numbers from what I've read. Can anyone confirm or deny if the new bottles don't have bottle numbers anymore? I would also appreciate pictures of a bottle with the number on the label.

Hi,
Pampero Selecciуn 1938 it's a good rum, it's similar to Pampero Aniversario, but the vainilla flavour it's less strong. Orange flavour, blended with a mature fruits, and cocoa.
I prefer it, because isn't too sweet.

If what Käptn says is true about the age of Selección 1938 (5-6 years) then it is approximately the same age as Aniversarios (4-6 years). Going by the age and the quality of Aniversario (and the similarity you mentioned) I would be very prepared to buy Selección 1938. I recently posted a review of Aniversario (http://www.refinedvices.com/content/view/30/1/) that might be useful to some people here.

There doesn't seem to be much info about the Pampero Seleccion 1938 anywhere. I'd been looking for a bottle for a while until I stumbled upon one in Brussels at the weekend (I was on a Belgian beer weekend but still managed to find time to fit some rum into the trip). I'll report back here when I get around to opening it.

The Pampero Seleccion 1938 is a very good rum. The LCBO was carrying it but is no longer available. Never had the Aniversarios, but the Seleccion 1938is worth buying - you won't disappointed.

Don Piero, thanks for sharing your positive impression of the 1938. The Aniversario is one of my favourites so I've got high hopes for the 1938 - I hope I'm not disappointed!

You had to know I was going to chime in here!

Something I have observed before on these pages is that Aniversario rarely wins the very top honors in tasting or reviews, meaning it consistently gets rated at 8 or 9 out of 10. But, if you ask rum lovers their opinion, we universally rate it as one of the best. I think it has broad general appeal, but few are prepared to rate it as their number one choice. Now, I eschew "number one choices" but for me, Pampero Aniversario is a clear runner for that honor in my collection. It is something I just won't be without. I find it classic in it's profile, everything I think of when the word "rum" is mentioned. Rich, dark, satisfying, I can enjoy it anytime. Highly recommended as a cornerstone of any rum lover's cabinet options, I don't think you can go wrong with it. .

I completely agree! The Aniversario is the one rum which I make sure I am fully stocked up on at all times. It's quite expensive here in the UK (over £30 a bottle) so I usually pick it up several bottles when I go to Spain.

It is the rum which first got me interested in this noble spirit, and since those early days it has always been with me, constantly maintaining its lofty position in my estimation even as my tastes change and other rums come and go. I have never tired of it, nor have I found anything which hits the mark in quite the same way.

The Aniversario will always be one of the most important and trusted generals in my army, and I would not dream of going into battle without it by my side!

I just found a lone bottle of Pampero Seleccion 1938 at a store not far from where I live. I didn't buy it as I just grabbed the Flor de Cana 12 earlier today, but from the sounds of it I might have to go back ad get this guy before someone else does!

I bought a bottle of the 1938 in Belgium last month. I've not opened it yet, but from what I've found out on the internet it's supposed to be pretty good. I'm waiting for the right moment to crack it open, but if it's anything like the Aniversario (I'm led to believe they are similar) then it should be something special!
