I have fairly reliable information that Mount Gay extra extra old, labeled 1703 (the year the distillery started) will debut at Rum Renaissance Festival in Miami in May. The line forms behind me.

Only problem with being 1st in line is that it means you have everyone behind you to stab you in the back. Now Im not saying any of us would...but we do like rum, we do have pirate tendencies, and we have other friendslaughing.gif
Only kidding, snatch up a bottle of it and please tell us what you think Robert. Sounds like Miami is going to be huge.

And that won't be the the only rum to debut in Miami.

I'm glad to Rob is up to his usual creative self. I'm excited after meeting with
Rob and Robin at the Shore Club and checking out the venue for the Miami Rum experience in May. This means that i'll have to drive and bring the suburban to carry all the booty debuting.
I think I might have to go into training!

Any details that surface prior to May would be much appreciated. Of course.

Bob, just grab a bottle, take a swig, and pass it back to those of us behind you in line. And I am sure we will be able to purchase many of the rums available in Miami?

Hank, we're working with local retailers to ensure that you can order the rums you taste at the Renaissance festival, on site or online.

Excellent. I know I will taste a few new ones that I will want to add to my shelf. Thanks, Robert.

Good things for those who wait, I hate waiting. The Extra Old is a personal favorite of mine I hope this dosent blow it out of the water.......it would cost me and others more money ;-)

BTW: looking forward to RobertBurr and others tastings coming up, you lucky few who are first :-)

Cheers!

I was able to sample some of the Cask 1703 with Chester Browne of Mount Gay. Delicious stuff. Superb.

Chester is making the rounds... what's your opinion? Is it worth a hundred?

While I have not tasted it but from the information I've managed to gather it seems like a good deal to me. In Europe the price will probably be over 100 euros. I need to review this.

I'd rank it up there with Appleton 21, based on the small tasting I did with Chester and Laura Baddish. I'd like to spend some more time with it to really put together some notes, but my initial impression is that it's worth the buck.

Now when and if this comes available in Canada, I may have to cross the border and sneak me up some rum ;-) I hate waiting.

I got to try this wonderful rum at the San Francisco MoR Festival. It is a refined sipper of the highest quality. We were able to try it, side by side, with the XO. Definitley, it is the rich, older, uncle of the same family. The kicker, I got home to find that my bottle from Shoppers Vineyard will be in my hands tomorrow. drooling3.gif

Rumdog007, if you happen to be at HiTime in the next few weeks can you check with them if they'll be bringing the 1703 in? I'll be down there about the 3rd week of May so if they have it then I'll definitely snap it up.

Thanks for the update; it sounds like it will be close for my trip, but luckily I have 30 other so odd rums that you have stocked there on my list!! Sadly I can only bring 4 back and probably some for while I'm down there. I was thinking my top four I'd pick up if they were in stock would be Pussers 15 YR, Ron Barcelo Imperial, Zacapa 23, and Ron Botran 18 YR or possible the ED 21 YR. Can't wait to see the store!

Thanks Calgaryx, I only get over to Calgary about every two years so I'll stock up on a number of items next time I'm there. There are so many options at Hitime's that I'm sure I'll have plenty to choose from.

To Forrest, I'll send a PM to you shortly, I'd definitely love a 1703!!! Looking forward to meeting you in a few weeks and seeing the shop!

A liqour store here in Orlando has it, and I bought a bottle last week.
I'm sorry to say I am a little disappointed.

Mt Gay Extra Old is one of my favorite rums, but for me the 1703 is not nearly enough better to justify the price difference.

Side by side they are about the same color.
I can taste the extra aging in the 1703, but there is a bit more of an alcohol burn in there also. a few drops of water softens it down, but I still prefer the Extra Old, especially at less than half the price.

We had a bottle of Pyrat 1623 open earlier this evening, and that completely puts the 1703 to shame.

That is a GREAT looking bottle...

Mind you, I'm naturally suspicious of fancy spirits packaging, but if I'm going to ask a customer to drop $100 on a single bottle, it helps if the product looks like it should be worth the money.

Contrast that with the pricey Gosling's bottle, which is nice, but not anywhere near as elegant as this.
