That isn't going to last long. A great price on a great rum.

Yes, I wish we could get it for that price in London.

Or the rest of the Europe for that matter. The Americans have it good!

Although the price is quite good and will spur us to pick up a few bottles (thanks for the notice Seth), please be advised that the good folks at Shoppers had the ED 15 on sale for, if memory serves, $23.95 last year. It appears that the wholesale price is on the rise.

El Dorado 15 here is undervalued. Some retailers offer it for less than $25. Last year at our "Rum Makes A Great Holiday Gift" tasting event, it was offered to our rum fans for $120 per case of six.
The El Dorado 5, a great rum, is currently selling for $8.99 a bottle at Total Wine.

I have to say that while the ED 15 is awesome I also must say that I think the ED 12 yr has a better taste. Anyone else agree with me on this one?

The ED 12 has a sweeter signature more in line with Zacapa, a bit less complex than the 15. I like it a lot and tend to reach for it when in the mood for something less serious.

I mix El Dorado 12 in serious cocktails as well. The 15 makes a good old fashioned but it's a lot smokier than some of the other rums I use to make that drink.

I see there is a total wines in Raleigh, NC which is not all that far from me, is it worth the drive to go and see what they have?

It was that price, a while ago. The folks at Demerara are very nice, but they do everything backwards. A normal price increace is $1. Their price increase was $3, which is high, as far as I'm concerned. They did the same thing with the 21yr. It took a $20 a bottle price increase all at once. That's a sure way to kill sales.

I'll second that. I love both but, to me, the 12 year is richer and fuller. I reach for that more when I want to chill or have a drink with friends. The only other rum I drink with the same frequency is the Appleton Extra Old.
The 15 year is more of a special occasion, dry, subtle, smoky, sipper. glass.gif

Seth, considering that you buy rum from a distributor I wouldn't necessarily blame El Dorado for their pricing structure. It is still a much better value than that $29 bottle of vodka on the shelf at your local liquor store.

Apparantly, there were scheduled price increases, but they were never passes along to the distributor, who in turn never passed it along to the retailer. When they finally realized it, the price increases happened all in one hit. At least, that is according to the distributor.
But I agree with you. It's a much better value than the $30 vodka. Personally, I don't understand how a company can charge those kinds of prices for vodka. I was recently shown a $50 vodka and when I asked why it's so much the answer was, "Well, you must understand...it's filtered through diamond dust." Ok...I'll stick to the rum!

That's a great price which equates to ($26.98 X $1.28 currency exchange) $34.53 Canadian, considering its $59.75CDN :eek:at the LCBO. Wish I could get it here at that price.

That may be the first time I've heard of a distributor not taking a scheduled price increase whether passed along from the producer or not.
Still...It's great stuff at a reasonable price.
$50 Vodka! Diamond Dust filtering! I agree with you Seth...Rum it is.

We get bent over the barrel here in Ontario (pun intended). No kidding, we pay $60 for that year and just recently I'm paying $109.95Cdn for the ED 21yr...highway robbery, but I do it :)
