*Rumor Confirmed*

A year in the making and our shipment is finally on its way!-- Our precious cargo left Barbados this morning!

Rum Runner Imports [RRI] is a family business and Doorly's XO is our first product. As we grow, we hope to bring more of Richard Seale's line to BC; and expand into other producers as the market will support.

Thanks to the MoR for being a great resource with wonderful contributors and to Ed for bringing it to life.

Great News! When do you expect it to make it on to the shelves and where can we buy??

Our target will be the private specialty stores, but any store in BC has the potential to make a special order. So if you want it at your favorite store-- that is just around the corner, please make it happen.

If anyone knows store owners in BC that appreciate fine rums, please let me know!

It should arrive fairly soon (2 week?), might take some time to clear customs as its the first one etc etc and then it needs to be set up in the LDB system...don't worry I'll keep you all informed.

Have you had any luck getting it set up in the LDB system or do you have to wait until it arrives? I was also curious, will it ship with the tin they show on this site or just the bottles only:

Yes correct, we'll have to wait until Doorly's XO has landed here to get it set up in the system.

I did asked Richard at R.L. Seale re: the collector tins, and he states that only a few tins have made their way to the US and it is predominantly an European promotion.

Thanks for looking into the collector tins, too bad they won't make it here. I guess its what's inside that really counts!

You mentioned earlier that you might bring in some other rums from the R.L. Seale line. Any idea of what might be coming next?

Any suggestions from the user community of other R.L. Seale rums worth trying?

Well, it's all quite a bit down the road, but we can potentially bring in anything from their line.

You will be able to order it from the the gov or private stores. We will be working on distribution and sampling once it arrives. Hopefully this will lead to more stores carrying it permanently.

Please feel free to go up to a bartender at your fav pub and ask for it too...word of mouth works great.

Cheers.

Sounds like it won't be more than a few weeks before we can have it in our hands, great work! Just to clarify, will we need to place a special order for a case or will we be able to ask our local gov liquor store to bring it in where we can buy individual bottles (much like we did recently with the Angostura 1824)?

RRI, other than the product name, is there a company name (your distribution company) or product number that we'll need to order this through the gov't stores?

My contact BCLD is known as the "rum lady". If I can get word to her, then I'm sure she'll order some in.

The Stock Keeping Unit- SKU is 267351.

That should be all you need. **About 10 years ago somebody brought in a range of Doorly's rums (not the XO) and it was a flop; however, those names and numbers still lurk in the LDB system (gasp) so be sure to specify the XO.

You should be able order a bottle...better yet asked for a case and that you'll buy 1 bottle and they should shelve the rest!! cheers.gif

Any idea yet on what the gov retail price will be? The LCBO sells it for $30 so I'm hoping it isn't too much more here. I'll be asking the gov store downtown to bring it in as soon as it's available.

Rum Runner Imports
03-14-2009, 03:06 PM
We hope to display for between 45-49 at the Gov stores and the privates will be a bit more.

There will always be a discrepency between the provinces based on the mark-up of said province, the tax rate and the freight charges>>BC being the furthest away from the Miami and New Jersey ports where 99% of beverages enter the US.

The BCLDB's mark-up (with taxes to follow) is 167%. Take Goslings Family Reserve for instance: LCBO $55, BCLDB $98--Its nuts, but its the market's reality.

Doorly's XO is a great, simple pleasure of my life. Luckily, it is avaiable in Arizona at Total Wine. I have tried it side by side with the other Seale offering, Tommy Bahama Golden Sun, and found it to shine in so many ways compared to the TBGS. BTW, I am not a TB hater, either. love1.gif

Went to the downtown signature gov store today and they told me their system shows Doorly's is not available to order either in store or by spec (by the case). They said it was listed as not approved or not yet approved. They had pricing of $19.00 per bottle by a case of 6 when it would be available and that the pricing was subject to change. Must be what they're paying per bottle or something along those lines. Anyhow, just wanted to keep you posted RRI if you wanted to speak to the corporate office, once it is available I will ask them to bring it into the store.

Thank you Vanpatt...we are aware that the price is wrong. It is the price for Doorly's OP from 1999!!

Should be back online and properly priced early next week.

I'll let you know, sorry for the wasted trip.

I had recommended Doorly's XO to a buddy and when he googled it he found this link:

http://www.royalmilewhiskies.com/product.asp?pf_id=0010000029413

He told me based on the staff review he'd never touch the stuff!!

And had I read it prior to tasting it, I would probably have said the same...luckily Broom sets it straight.

Its almost comical but come on!!?? sizzled sausage? barbecue sauce? paprika?---

To the staff at Royal Mile Whiskey,

In the future please do not pair Rum with Doritos during tastings!!

I haven't had the pleasure yet of trying Doorly's and can't wait to get my hands on it but this review seems so far off from everything I've read I can't believe they even posted it on their site (which I've looked at before and respected their opinions for other rums).

On the LDB front, no worries about a wasted trip, it's 2 blocks from where I work and gives me a good excuse to get out of the office over lunch. I'll just go in again sometime next week when you let us know it's good to go.

It appears the saga continues...we're looking into it, I called Westwood ,their screen says back ordered, which is not true, its is sitting there in Richmond waiting to be scooped up!

As fas the Esplanade store, that is where we put in our order (which is probably messed up) and the gov stores are unable to stock something until is deemed "Listed".

I'll keep you posted.

I have been informed by the LDB that Doorly's XO has been re-activated after the price amendment and should be ready to order as of April 8--mind you, I was also told this aswell on Monday the 6th)

Rum Runner Imports
04-07-2009, 07:24 PM
You are correct, gov stores is by the case only--and they are not permitted to stock it (yet)

Private stores should be able to order it as of tomorrow; sell you a bottle and shelve the rest--and hopefully make it part of their regular order.

Please let me know what private store(s) you (all) choose and I'll contact them to do a tasting.

Vanpatt
04-07-2009, 07:42 PM
One private store we should look at is the Private store at Park Royal (Steamworks or whatever it is called now). They seem quite open to this. The other would be the Liquor Barn / Depot. The Liquor Barn in Burnaby also seemed quite open to bring new rums in. A final one is the Fox's Reach in Maple Ridge.

Rum Runner Imports
04-07-2009, 07:51 PM
I will contact them tomorrow, I can stop in at the Park Royal store on the way home. The other two I'll have to call.

The Liquor Depot/ Barn is a huge company with multiple stores across BC and Alberta...its even trades on the TSX as an Income Fund. LIQ.UN. They are for sure on our call list.

Thanks for the leads.

Vanpatt

That would be awesome if you could arrange a tasting at the Park Royal Store. I'd do my best to attend; I work typical 9-5 type job downtonw so if it's a weeknight hopefully you could arrange it for early evening. I'd then pick up a bottle or two of Doorly's while I'm there.

Would be a good chance to meet some of our fellow local MoR members as well.

RRI, when can we expect the Park Royal store to receive their shipment of Doorly's? I was in the area on Monday and stopped in but the clerk working there didn't know anything about it. For others looking for the FDC 18, it hadn't arrived either.

How does the shipping work; does it come directly from you or do you have to send to the gov warehouse and then on to the store?

Rum Runner Imports
04-15-2009, 03:15 AM
In a perfect world, the order comes in 8-12 days after its put through. Doorly's XO being a spec it has to come from our warehouse (Container World) to the LDB warehouse and then be combined with the rest of Pam's order and then sent to the store.

I've been doing some sampling with other owners, there are cases on order at 25th street liquor in West Van, Northshore Liquor shop in the Save-On complex on Marine and the Lynnwood store by MEC.

I would think that Pam's order at VTP would beat these guys to the punch though. I'll let you know when Pam calls me--she seems keen to keep the shelves stocked with good rum.

Duffman

RRI, by the time I got into the Doorly's I was about five beers in to watching the hockey game, so my report would have been a little skewed. I did sample some last night (both before beers and hockey) and found that the Doorly's is very, very smooth. Not as full bodied as some more expensive rums, but for the price it's definitely a winner and will be well represented in my growing collection. I put it on par with FDC 12 and Cruzan Single Barrel as they are in the same price range.

I can't really provide the level of review that so many others in the community often do (and thanks to all for your ongoing efforts to educate us), but I gotta say "I like it", and that is what matters most to me.

I distributed the other bottles to friends and they are universally impressed as well. I've been instructed to order another case (or two) as most are seeking another bottle or two.

RRI, thanks for bringing this rum into BC and to our attention.

A little fuzzy this morning,

Duff

RRI, is it actually at the private store in North Vancouver? I'm thinking of going by today.
Thanks,

Yes Vanpatt, this is not a drill.

I called this morning, they said some bottles have already sold.

Alright, I'm a proud new owner of a bottle of Doorly's XO! Thanks for your efforts RRI. I'm going to enjoy it this weekend and will likely restock sometime next week.
Cheers.

Just a reminder that RRI will have a booth at Eat Vancouver this weekend (22-24th). in the Liquor Pavilion.

Eat Vancouver is hosted at BC Place Stadium. They expect 30,000 visitors this year...I wonder what portion of them enjoy rum?

Eat Vancouver was a great success. Judging by tickets sales, I would say that between 600-800 people tried the Doorly's XO over the weekend. I was able to promote the MoR as well; so we will mostly likely have some new recruits soon.

We are also happy to report that the LDB has granted us a specialty listing and Doorly's XO will appear in the Signature Stores in roughly 2-3 weeks!!

Please let me know when you spot it.

Vanpatt- what was your opinion of the rum?

Hi RRI, congrats on the government listing; I noticed today they have 250 or so bottles in stock now which is excellent news! I'd saved a few drinks from my existing bottle but am actually having a glass right now knowing that there is plenty available now. I'm having it with a generous splash of coconut water which is a very good compliment to the rum.

As with Duff's previous comments, I think this will be one of my standard sippers along with the Cruzan Single Barrel, FDC 12 and ED 15 (I'd definitely put it in the same class). Incredibly smooth and drinkable, I'm still trying to detect the Sherry finish and I think I'll need to spend more time with it neat to discover it. Thanks again for your work bringing this into BC and I look forward to contributing to the success of your business!

Any chance you can get the R L Seale 10 year brought in here??

Thank you for the encouragement Vanpatt. The R L Seale 10 year is in reach; however, we are currently in talks to bring in another rum from their line first.

Announcements to follow.

Doorly's XO is selling at a rate of approx. 4 bottles a day for the province of BC.

Ontario sells approx. 1200 bottles a year.

At our current rate of sale we will meet or beat that number by roughly 200 bottles in our first year.yay.gif
