I just noticed that Gifted Rums is now co-presenter of the SF Rum Festival. Does this mean that we'll soon have the pleasure of meeting the estimable Messrs Burr?

I was wondering what the requirements were for submitting a rum to be presented at the rum fest, and what all would be involved in doing that.

The best thing to do is send me an email and include the name of the spirit you represent. Only spirits which are registered in California can be tasted at an event like this since it is open to the public.

Ed, I believe that my people and your people have gotten together and finalized the details concerning my appearance at your event. Forrest has signed on as head of my security detail. However, my staff have reported that I they have not received my ticket, as of yet. Should we be looking for it in the mail?

We haven't received our tickets yet either rumdog. It seems likely that the tickets haven't been distributed to this point.
We're looking forward to finally getting to meet you, forrest, and the other members of this coterie of rum fanciers. :)

Michael, it will be good to put a face to the insightful posts. I did the digital to analog conversion with Rumdood while hanging at HiTime, yesterday. I mentioned to him, and hope to tell you, about the exciting new product for which I would like to enlist you as a sales representitive. glass.gif

Great Michael!
I forgot to ask him! No matter, after chatting him up about the multi-level sales/investment program and asking him for his credit card number, he told me that I needed to stay more than 500 yards away...:(

Let's hope that that won't dissuade him from joining the local rum fest. Perhaps you can take turns attending. :)

Hi Ed,
When do you expect the tickets to be distributed? We purchased a pair on March 3, but have yet to receive any notice except the google checkout message at the time of purchase.
Thanks for your help. :)

Michael and others who have purchased tickets online. I have printed them and sent then out this week. The shipping charge for tickets is deducted when the account is charged and accounts are not charged until tickets have been sent. Sorry for the delay, I had a tickets printed and there was an error so I had to reprint the tickets.
Everyone who has purchased a ticket has been mailed a ticket by today, either from San Francisco and some from Chicago. If you haven't received your ticket by Tuesday of next week please let me know.

The event listing indicates that the Diplomático brand will be represented. Is there any chance that the Diplomático Rum Blanco will be on hand to sample?

yes, a very good chance you'll see Diplomatico Rum Blanco in San Francisco.

There will certainly be a few rums that aren't on the list of rums on the event page and I suspect Diplomatico Blanco will be one of them, if it's registered with the state in time for this event. It's always something, or something else.

Hi there! I won't know until Monday if I'll be able to attend. Will there be tickets available at the door, and will the member discount still apply?
Thanks!

Yes, Ed, a great time! The folks of St. George Spirits were the very best hosts. What a nice place and atmosphere, too. Years ago, I conducted business in that very same hanger when it was full of Navy aircraft. It has been reborn.
Thank you for taking us out afterwards. I was so glad to finally meet you. As you so aptly pointed out, it was the internet and your site which brought us together for so much fun. :D

Thanks to everyone who worked to make this event a success. It's always nice to see so many people having a good time. I'll post a link to some pictures next week.
The San Francisco USBG rocked the cocktails and I look forward to doing more for them in the future. I just wish I wasn't committed to go to Miami as that is Cocktail Week in San Francisco.

One of the many treats at the Rum Tasting was the wonderful beverages served..
At the El Dorado table was none other than Martin Cate, who was masterfully answering questions while expounding beautifully on the history of rum in general and simultaneously serving a wonderful punch (presumably made with El Dorado...).
Being a boozer i lagged about till everyone was wrapping up and i saw Martin pouring off his punch into smaller vessels and i mooched one off of him (actually he kindly offered-- Thank You!!). i am now finishing that punch (smuggled back to So Cal in my luggage...) and Holy Moly is it even more amazing than i recall!!
MARTIN CATE MASTER OF THE PUNCH!

Cheers for the kind words, Forrest!
A great event it was- excellent turnout, a great combination of industry and consumers as guests- lots of good questions and just an overall real feeling that people are eager to get a better understanding of sugar cane spirits. Great cocktails were poured by my fellow USBG SF bartenders, the food was dee-lish, and you can't beat the setting. (Hey, it was even on an island!)
A big tip of the hat to Dr. Hamilton for bringing the magic yet again, and cheers to the whole crew at St. George for keeping all the gears oiled and turning smoothly!
Mahalo!
