Aye Mates,
the name is CaptnTony and I need some help. Oh I'm 72 years old, retired from being a Captain on The Great Lakes, USA
I was given a bottle of "COCKSPUR" V.S.O.R. Rum
2 weeks ago from a older lady I know and I am trying to find out a little about it before I go busting into it. glass.gif
She received it 20-25 years ago from a lady friend that lived in Barbados. The bottle is still sealed and I would be grateful for any help I can get as to year bottled etc. If it happens to be something rare, I would hate to waste it on some of my drinking friends
I've been treated to good rum when I was in the Islands many many years ago and would like to know what I'm drinking.

The lables are 4.25 x 3.25 and I have included 2 photos that include the VSOR number.
I tried to find a site where I could get information using the VSOR number but so far have failed.
If U can help, please post back or send me a private email to captaintony@wideopenwest.com
Thank U in advance.
CaptnTony

Welcome to the Forums. The bottle of Cockspur VSOR that you have was bottled by Hanschell Innis, the company that owns the Cockspur label and was an early bottling of that mark.
Although numbering the bottles appears to be more of a marketing ploy than an accounting practice, I would highly recommend this rum. In my opinion it is probably slightly better than the rum bottled under that label today. Enjoy it with good friends.

Welcome Tony. You may wish to take your query with bottle number direct to the source. You can find the email link to the producer here (http://hanschellinnissltd.com/index.php?q=6). Give it a try. We'd love to know the bottling date as well as your impressions of the taste too.

Welcome! I saw a movie called "Lakeboat" that was enjoyable and informative. Before, I knew nothing of these ships. I hope that the film was accurate. The rum, by the same name, which I had about 3 years ago was a very good tasting rum. I would definitely enjoy it with your friends that will appreciate a full body, spices, and nuts. I checked my old notes on this rum and that's what I tasted. BTW, to our misfortune, I have not seen this rum on shelves in SoCal for quite some time. glass.gif

Alas i do not have any info on this rum , but i do have a hearty welcome to our for-rum!
Good to have you sir!

i have had a bit of the rum with some friends, and as i recall i deeply enjoyed it-- this this was over 15 years ago, we were at a 'get together' and we did not start with this gem- or end with it-- but i remember thinking it was very good.
