Thought I'd start the morning off with some light conversation. You know how wine as cheese, olives, crackers, spicy deli meats to go along with the consumption experience. I was wondering if people have some small foods that they like to eat while enjoying a flight of rum. I personally do prefer this and some of my fav's are...chocolate, peanuts(butter toffee roasted, spicy, etc..), dried fruit, plantain chips...

For bites to go with rum, I like fresh guacamole made with ripe avocados, spiked with smokey dried chilies, onions and tomatoes and finished with a bit of fresh key lime juice. We also do little crackers with slow roasted BBQ pulled pork (rum based sauce of course) topped with jalapeno jack cheese. I make a pretty good smoked fish dip with onions and garlic and smoked chiles and a sour cream base.

A little cheese and a fresh baguette when I'm in the French islands. Slightly salted, broiled coconut is another of my favorites.

The most important thing for me, is to eat something and I always try to drink a glass of water before I start happy hour(s).

I can say the lunch experience Rumelier and I had with Federico at Restaurant "EL Picoteo" was fantastic to my mind and palate. It is an authentic Spanish Tapas place.

Crusty bread with a compound butter of garlic and spices.

Small marinated black and green olives.

An authentic Spanish Tortilla (like an omelet, or more close to a Frittata) made with potato and onion served cold.

Small skewers of beef and green pepper smothered in a red wine and mushroom reduction sauce.

Small skewers of chicken breast served with an aioli sauce on one side and a vibrant tomato salsa on the other.

Mojito? Cuba Libre? Daiquiri? All three?

Call it Appetizers, Lunch or Dinner...It works for me.

I like to munch on almonds when sipping rum. I find the two very complimentary.

We had some rums this weekend and were munching on baked wheat crackers with a hummus dip. Not a deliberate pairing, but it really did go nicely.
