To Gill or not to Gill?

I had a interesting conversation with my great uncle awhile back when I visited Ipswich.. He drinks from a metal cup.. it was tin with enamel on it, I can't recall what was written on it. He said this was the only rum cup he will ever drink out of and it was a sad time when he left the navy and had to look in dark alleys for the rum he use to drink.
Does metal cups give a off taste to rum? is Pusser's Rum worth the taste and effort to find it?Btmup.gif

There is a lot of tradition and it is hard to break old habits. I remember drinking from a tin cup at my grandmothers house when I would visit many years ago. Maybe it was the cool effect on my lips or the slightly different taste when drinking from a metal cup as opposed to a glass. Since then I've also noticed a slightly different taste between tin and aluminum cups.

You mentioned enamel on your uncle's tin cup, which is a whole other experience. Could it have been porcelain as opposed to enamel?

Pusser's used to be the closest rum to that in the last flagons bottled for the Royal Navy that I've had the pleasure of drinking. In the last few years the proof on Pusser's has been reduced and the blend has changed and it isn't quite as heavy as it used to be.

I remember it was metallic inside and it was very chipped.. It hung on his fire place, a nail hammered into the mantel..
I'm going to have to try it, maybe some second hand store has a metal cup somewhere..
I drink my rum from a fired clay glazed double shot that I got from Belize..

look on the england e-bay and they often have the original tin cups.

It has amazing history! US and British navy/army use to issue out rum to it's sailors or soldiers. And they have their own issue cups, I wished work issued me rum party2.gif
