Czech republic makes rumlike spirits (as does Slovakia), but they are no longer allowed to call these "rum" because the raw material is not sugar cane. This as far as I know..

Czech rums cames up in discussion with a Polish co-worker. She said that her mother has returned from that part of the world and had brought back some "rum" to drink in her tea (barf) ...but I was still curious.
