You people amaze me. I have read about Angostura bitters in some recipes, and one day in Safeway , next to the Roses lime cordial was 3 bottles of the stuff. So I take one home with me. I simply tried the recipe on the back for a simple rum punch. Now I used a dark rum and may have added a little too much bitters - but it was poor.
Not to give up too easy - some things are acquired tastes, I retried with a Havana Club white rum I keep for company. I can't stand the stuff by itself or with a soda of any flavour.
WOW! this was nice. quickly made another. Have been experimenting with the bitters quantity all week. Gonna have to get another bottle of rum. This is gonna be an awesome summer drink with all the crushed ice keeping it nice and cold.
So now I come back to the MOR site here and see the threads on bitters and read a few. Another whole world to check out and so many of you have been way down the roads and checked them all out too.
Is there anything about rum and mixes Tiara doesn't know? I downloaded some of her food recipies too and they sound delicious. need some time to try a couple this summer. Rummies Rock!

It's no wonder some of us crazies extol the virtues of bitters so vehemently. They're magic.

Lloyd Litwin, welcome to the world of bitters! Five or six years ago, in North America, there were, maybe, 6 from which to choose. Now, Fee Brothers has expanded their line, Reagan's No.6 Orange Bitters is everywhere, and Angostura has expanded to orange bitters, too. Amargo, from Peru, can be found on US shelves in specialty markets. It is the bitter of choice for a Pico Sour. I finally got Hermes Bitters from Japan, made by the venerble Suntory company. Right now, I am waiting for my next trip to Germany to buy The Bitter Truth line which I hear is great. forrest has made his own and has promised to let me sample some!

Bittermens is also close to launching an array of bitters in the US. What I've tried to date has been above average, but then there were served in one of the best rum friendly bars in NY.

Bitters...my other other other obsession. Careful with them...you start with Angostura, and next thing you know you have a cabinet full of Fee Brothers, Angostura, Peychaud, Regan's, Bitter Truth, home-made...
