Finally the Mai Tai month is done, we are 4 cocktail blogs doing rum-combo coverage on the Mai Tai as well as attempting to set the Mai Tai recipe straight. It was Rumdood (http://www.rumdood.com) who started the whole thing..and more posts will soon come out on the other blogs as well Kaiserpenguin (http://www.kaiserpenguin.com) and Trader Tiki (http://www.tradertiki.com).

I've only just begun to dig through the mai tai!!!
48 combos on my list so far...I'm about half-way through (http://rumdood.com/archive/2009/01/26/a-month-of-mai-tais.aspx)...and this is just 2 rum combos. I haven't even looked at the 3 rum combos yet (such as the Ed Hamilton Mai Tai).
Based on my current stock, a few of us did the math and realized that if I did every possible 3 rum combination on my shelf, I could do 300,000 different mai tais - assuming that the measurements were equal for each.

You tiki perverts have junior on a Mai Tai frenzy, at the same time he's collecting zombie recipes from every famous mixologist that ever reared his head.
Here's one rum combo that works for us: Diplomatico Reserva with Diplomatico Rum Blanco and Santa Teresa Orange Rum.
The Martinique Mai Tai: Clement VSOP, Premiere Canne and Creole Shrubb.
I love RumDood's Clement XO and Appleton 21. I think Mount Gay XO would play nice also.
Left field combo: Prichard's Fine Rum, Coruba, Creole Shrubb.

I made mai tais all last summer, and at one point made my own orgeat, but my journey pales in comparison to this undertaking! My mint plants are under a few inches of snow right now, but as spring comes, I will definitely be trying out some of your recipes. Thanks! cheers.gif

Yeah, he told me about that. Funny thing is that a bunch of the tiki bloggers and myself (dammit, I am NOT a tiki blogger...am I?) were already talking about doing a massive Zombie project for February.
And my mai tai project continues.
Weirdest combo I've tried thus-far: Zaya and JWray Overproof.

Yes you are, at least half of you.

Where is that one on your scale?
Its really nice that you continue with your Mai Tai project, and i look forward to read the outcome. I have been counting that you, Rick and Blair cover all those rums that are available in the US so in the end we end up with a quite complete Mai Tai project covering rums so that there will be something for everyone to pick.
