El Dorado Superior White

Anybody tried this rum? If so what is it like?
Took a bottle home yesterday when I went to my favorite rumshop to pick up a Malecon Esplendida, a Pyrat XO and an Angostura 1919, it was on sale for 9 euro's so I tought what the hell I buy one and try later.

Tried to find any reviews or posts about it on the forum but all that came up was El Dorado 3YO White and that isn't the one.

Thanks for any help/answers you folks can give me.

It's an adequate mixing rum - streets ahead of Bacardi anyway.

It's now extremely difficult to find the cheaper El Dorados in London:(. Most retailers only stock the 15 year old, the 12 year old and occasionally the 3 year old white. Most of the white rum produced by DDL is shipped in bulk to Europe and bottled here under a variety of labels. The Superior White is in this category, whereas the 3 year old white is, I understand, aged and bottled in Guyana.

I met DDL's representative in London a few months ago, and although she was very helpful, she didn't think that availability of El Dorado in the UK would improve:(.

Still, that won't be of any concern to you in the Netherlands where, I believe, there is no shortage of any of the El Dorado rangeBtmup.gif.

You're right Berbician there's no shortage in El Dorado products overhere, especially in the 12, 15 and 21 YO departement, I've come across the 25 YO also but those bottles come at a pretty steep pricetag and eventho I love that rum I only buy one of those bottles for a special occasion.

Do you need any of the cheaper ED's? Maybe I could be of any help to you.

Tried it and like Berbician already said it was streets ahead of Bacardi Superior.
BUT..... other then that I gotta say that the rum didn't had much going on, not much of a sipper and quite frankly it only tasted decent in a Cuba Libre!! Then again, coca cola makes a lot of subpar rums taste somewhat downable.

Anyways, it makes for yet another bottle to add to the collection I guess :o

Sorry Berbician, I think you mean cities ahead of Bacardi.

Sorry to hear that you can't find the cheaper EDs but as a true Guyanese you should know your way around to get them.

I see you mentioned that "Most of the white rum produced by DDL is shipped in bulk to Europe and bottled here under a variety of labels". This is not so. What we do is ship raw spirit to Europe where it is bought by warious individuals / companies and blended and bottled under their marks. Most of these rums are identified as being labeled as Demerara rum. I would not be able to say how authentic this statement is. Even our competitior in Guyana advertise their product as Demerara rum but again I cannot gurantee the authenticity of the statement. What I can gurantee is that El Dorado rums are 100% Demerara rum and nothing else. And you can take that to the bank.

I do not understand how the DDL representative in UK can tell you that "she didn't think that availability of El Dorado in the UK would improve". I would need to find out.

I've just come back from Trinidad and found an excellent selection of El Dorado rums at T Wee Duty Free at Piarco Airport. The El Dorado Superior White was just US$5 a bottle. However, I splashed out on a bottle of El Dorado 15 year old (US$24) and a bottle of El Dorado Single Barrel "Port Mourant" (I'm trying to forget how much that cost me).

Both are excellent.

Well like any good thing there always is a price tag and since life is a 'one crop' then it is worth enjoying.

A number of individuals who have tasted the single barrel PM said it has similar characteristics like a good cognac. I don't know since I am a rum drinker. What do you think?

I would say that the PM is a lot better than most cognac that I've tasted. However, it's a long time since I last drank cognac. Life is short and there is so much rum to drink - why waste time on lesser beverages.

I just tried the El dorado 3 year, perhaps i have not found the perfect way to enjoy it yet, but i just expected more, is the topic of this dicussion a 5 year?
