I'm on my way to the San Francisco Bay Area for a few days and hope to have some details on a bay area rum festival soon. Then it's back to Chicago to repack for a few days in the Dominican Republic with a short stop in Miami to raid Rob's rum locker.

Ed, I am eagerly awaiting your report on San Francisco and hoping to find a way to hide in your luggage for the trip to D.R. Plans for Rum Renaissance in Miami are progressing nicely, as you'll see.

The rum locker here is well stocked and ready for a good raid.. or three.

It's going to be a very good year.

Enjoy your travels Ed! I am eagerly awaiting the Miami event. I envy the tipling at the Burr rum locker.

San Francisco was almost too much fun. Cantina, the Clock Bar and Zinnia and that was just the first night.

Monday I ran into Brooke Arthur, James France - the Australian importer of Flor de Cana and Ryan Fitzgerald in Berretta. James was looking to see San Francisco so after drinks and a bite at Berreta we walked down to Range for a sip of Santa Teresa then over to Bourbon and Branch and look at the Library and some Bourbon. Then over to Rye to catch up with Marco and Jacque at Rye for a night cap or three.

Tuesday was the first friends and family night for Heaven's Dog, Eric Adkins new place between 7th and 8th on Mission. What a night that was. It was great to see many of the top Bay Area bartenders behind the bar or enjoying a very warm reception. Great appetizers and even better drinks. None of us are very good in a three deep bar but it was worth the trouble to see, eat and drink all great treats. Then over to Nopa to see Neya and a last drink. As usual Neya had some special treats and was a pleasure to see as usual.

With the opening of Heaven's Dog, San Francisco has another great place to go within walking distance of some really great bars. Can't wait to get back to the Bay Area next month.
