Excellent post, i share your affection for Demerara Rums, and i think you did an awesome job rubbing my nose in the fact i can't get most of those:(
Your enthusiasm is contagious, and Demerara love is a great thing to catch.
Oh sure T, just keep rubbing it in that out here we can get Lemonhart and that's about it. I would say we can get El Dorado, but I coudln't find any last night in 4 different stores.
I cried all night.
No wait, that's not what I did...I made mai tais all night.

Dear rum brethren, its not my intention to rub unreachable rums in your nose, but i think these rums as a part of the rum world also should be spoken of..
And Roberto do ship worldwide.
Its just that its hard to import to some States? i`m sorry for that. But there is also something called swapping rum samples..
And one of the best, BanksXM is soon going to be sold in the US as you know. Can you buy booze freely between states from, say internet shops?

Another great post, Tiare. Bravo!

Another beautiful literary triumph, Tiare. I, like Forrest, wish some of those tasty delicacies were available here.:D
Hi Tiare....great blog.
I have been interested in purchasing some of these rums but have been leery because of lack of information.
How do you find them in terms of flavour and their high ABV?? I'm concerned that the high ABV will not make them good sippers.
If you had to pick the best sippers and the best mixers, which ones would they be??
Thanks Tiare...

Well, the Silver Seal has such a flavor that it makes a excellent both sipper and mixer. And as its 110 proof its strong, so its good to sip provided that you like these kind of strong rums. I prefer to mix quality Mai Tais with it.
The Uitvlugt 1990 is 132 proof, and tastes very good. You can sip it, but not in to large quantities imop. I prefer to mix it too or use it as a floater.
The best both mixers and sippers i think is Silver Seal, Banks XM10 and Samaroli Port Morant 1990 (90 proof).
XM10 is outstanding in many ways, its available (soon in the US too) very reasonably priced, yet of outstanding quality. It has a flavor that is sweet and toffee-like, very yummy.Your best bet i think, along with El Dorado rums.
You could also try the XM12 millenium. Its not as sweet and toffee-like as XM10, and is lighter and more refined. An excellent rum.
Port Royal (92 proof) is very woody, as well as Old Vatted (80 proof) which is a bit sweeter. These 2 are very good in rum based-fruit juice drinks..but can of course be sipped.
if i was you, and wanted to try these, i would try to get XM10, XM12 millenium and Silver Seal.
But its a bit hard to give any real good flavor advices as taste is so personal. One rum that i really like, maybe you dont.
But i hope this helps...party2.gif
the info more than helps Tiare...thank you.
I have tried the Banks XM and love it but I haven't seen it here in Western Canada. My wife bought a bottle in Toronto and it didn't take long to go on ice garnished with a cinnamon stick.
