Waitrose has Cockspur 5 star on special offer at the moment - Ј9.99 a bottle instead of Ј12.99. They also have a good deal on one of the Havana Club rums - can't remember which one or the exact price, but again it's somewhere in the region of Ј3 off per bottle.

Waitrose has the best range of rums of all the British supermarkets and they always have at least one special offer going at any one time.

John Lewis's Foodhall (Oxford Street, London W1) also has the same range as Waitrose, and there is usually at least one rum there which you can taste before buying.

Is Cockspur 5 star the same as the "Cockspur Fine Rum" that we get here in the U.S.? In any case, I rate Cockspur's entry level rum as a better Barbados gold than Mount Gay Eclipse is (although I'll have to do a side to side showdown to be sure).

At a tenner the Cockspur 5 star is a bargain!

I've found that each rum at Waitrose goes on offer every four months or so. I tend to buy a bottle of Barbancourt whenever it is on offer, same goes for the Angostura.

I believe the Havana Club they stock is the Añejo Especial.

Carbon, yes, I think it's the same. I've heard it being referred to as both "Cockspur Fine Rum" and "Cockspur 5 star".

Yes, it is the Anejo Especial. I think that it's down from Ј16.99 to Ј13.99.

They also have Angostura 1919 reduced from Ј23.00 down to Ј18.00, and Mount Gay Eclipse down from Ј14.99 to Ј12.49. However, it is possible to find Mount Gay Eclipse for less than that in London, particularly in areas where there are lots of Caribbean expats.

Tesco has a special offer on Mount Gay Eclipse. I can't remember the exact price, but it's roughly Ј1 cheaper than the Waitrose price. Tesco also has Appleton VX on offer at a reduced price - again, can't remember the exact price.
