The Rum Fest in Puerto Rico early next year has been postponed until a later date in the spring. Reasons given were, that there will be a change in government in January and this may alter the funding for the event from the government. Lets keep our fingers crossed that this event gets funding for later in the year. I was really looking forward to attending this, but might go down anyway and do my own research!!

Bob. I am not surprised to learn of this. When a new political party comes into power everything involving Government funding gets put on hold until a review can be undertaken.

I can see no reason why the new administration would nix such an event.

Lets hope for a Springtime 2009 event taking place.

If you decide to come down in January anyway, lets plan on getting together.

I received word today that the San Juan Taste of Rum Festival (http://www.tasteofrum.com) will be held on May 23 and 24, 2009.

On this Island noted for many Festivals devoted to everything from coffee to St John the Baptist... This will be the Premier event devoted to the rich history of rum produced here and elsewhere.

Details are still being worked out. The venue of Paseo La Princesa in Old San Juan will be the setting for at least some of the activities.

Amongst the many things Puerto Ricans know how to do well is enjoy rum, food and music in beautiful settings.

I look forward to attending.

As a frequent visitor to PR i will second Rum Runner and am extremely happy to hear about this festival. I will have to check up with the misses as we are trying to plan a wedding down there and check on time frame. If you think about it, a rum fest in a caribbean culture...you can't go wrong Btmup.gif

Indeed, the people here love to celebrate. When the Merengue and Bomba y Plena music starts the party begins!

James...Is the wedding yours?

Jim, I got the date as the 24th, which is a Sunday and also see that the Plaseo is basically a promenade, an outdoor venue, which I have walked in the past. Not what I expected, but still sounds like a lot of fun. I hope it finally comes off. May could be a busy month as this is the weekend after Miami. Hopefully you and I and Federico will get to sample some Barrilto together this time. Looks like I need to start saving some $'s and just as well I got my new US visa in Nassau!!!!

Bob...I look forward to meeting you and Federico again in May for some rum, sun and fun!

If you visit the website Taste of Rum (http://www.tasteofrum.com) you will find that the judging takes place on May 23 and 24.

The Public event will be held on the 24th.

Glad to hear that your visa is in place and I don't have to worry about you getting deported for "improper" papers!

Perhaps we can spend a day before or after the event and get down to Ponce to visit Serralles and maybe over to Barrilito again.

Would love to do either, but maybe it will just be me and you as Fed. will probably be busy. I see one of the judges is from Barrilito, maybe we can wangle a taste of the Donna!!! How long would it take to get to Ponce??

I believe that Pablo is Don Fernando's son. Would love the chance to sample any of the older barrels.

About an hour and a half.
