Hello.
We are new parents of a colicky baby. We need to find a good drink to celebrate when the colic goes away (halfway there, we're told). After searching online, I came upon this website.
First, my wife has no palate. It has taken years for me to get her to appreciate certain spices in food, and she has impressed. Her (little) alcohol experience, however, is limited to Amaretto, Malibu and Arbor Mist.
I'm looking for a good rum we can sip by the glass, or at least enjoy with in a respectable drink (I'm a Bombay Sapphire and tonic drinker) that isn't a Mai Tai or Mojito.
Please help!

I feel your pain,HMMR having had a baby with colic, and going almost 9 months without 3 consecutive hours of sleep. It certainly wears on you. I found it best to stay away from alcohol all together during that time. For a good rum to celebrate the end of colic, I would personally recommend Zaya Gran Reserva. It is very smooth, sweet, and has a lot of vanilla and caramel flavors. I find it very easy to drink, perhaps a little too easyg()fy

Good call on the Zaya Gran Reserva from Trinidad. Heads up. If you happen upon the Zaya Gran Reserva from Guatamala, it is a winner, too. More caramel and no vanilla. As the source of the rum changed this year, you may not see one from this older bottling. On the new Trinidad offering(Zaya), it is splendid with a generous squeeze of lime and equal part tonic to rum. Look for Appleton Extra, too. This is another fine sipper that makes a great rum and tonic.
BTW, welcome to the forum. Please report back on your finds.
Finally, for the baby, I would go with a little Cruzan 151. :D
In my experience most babies prefer Brinley's Vanilla...

Seriously, I am old enough to remember when people REALLY would do this. I grew up in Kentucky and, there, it was a little sour mash in the formula! eek.gif

Mom used to give me a swig of her table wine. That would settle me right down.

A dab on the pacifier does work, indeed.
I purchased a bottle of Gosling's Black Seal Rum. Still couldn't drink it straight, but by adding a little water found it pretty good, especially after a few Rum n' Gingers.
Can't find a REAL Ginger Beer at my local store, and have been using Schweppes in the meantime.

Go to you local market and check out the goya brand of ginger beer. I've looked high and low for great ginger beers and this is one of the tops. Only other one I found that I can say is much better is local:

They do ship and have a website, use real cane instead of cheap stuff. Its good but more expensive.

I will check this out, thanks!
Tried the Gosling's Gold. Not bad, but went back to the Black Seal. Couldn't pull the trigger on a 1.75L of Cruzan Estate for $23 on sale. Had to get the Black Seal for $25.

$54 shipping for two cases of 12 oz. soda puts it a bit out of reach.

Yikes! I'll try and find something here, preferably with no HFCS.
