Here's a new find, for me. I remeber several threads in MOR regarding Cadenhead's rums. But, this is a weird one. No age statement, or country of origin. A generic, and odd, "Produce of the Caribbean" blurb. Bottled at 50% it is a potent flavorful sipper. I found it at Beltramo's in SF Bay Area for $60.00.

Cadenhead lists this under their "Classic" line of products as a "Vatted" rum.

Confusingly, they also have a "Green Label" line which highlights "individual cask" bottlings.

Thanks, Rum Runner! Yes, in fact, my web searches kept bringing up the other line of green labels. Those others sound like real upper shelf rums. I'm not compalining about this one, though. FULL of flavor and it has a great nose right off the top of our Flares. My longtime friend and I could not stop sipping this one last night. It's gone...

It's gone...

Bloody well done ole' Chaps! The price point you found it at seems about right. Cadenhead is listing it on their website for 27 Pounds Sterling.

I've only seen that rum. I've had a number of Cadenhead rums over the years and some have been absolutely stunning while others have left me disappointed. thanks for the notes on this one.

Not every Cadenhead Bottling hits a homerun...But in general I like what they are doing.

One thought I've had is that seeing they have access (as well as a number of other blenders ) to Cuban Rum...Who is to say that a bit of Cuban rum is not making its' way back to the USA through a blend? Blockade or not?

Well, I'm in the minority as usual, lol. I've only tasted 4 Cadenhead's all of which have been somewhat exceptional or at least interesting enough to discuss.g()fy

As Rum Runner describes, below illustrates the difference between the "Classic" (vatted) bottle versus a Green Label (regional) bottle:

While the Jamaican 10 year old bottle does not state anything specifically beyond Jamaican origin, I'm pretty sure I remember it and an older Jamaican bottle marketed as Long Pond's produce(?)

Ironically, I find both of these to share some very similar characteristics. I would be somewhat surprised to learn that the Classic vat doesn't contain at least some portion of rum from the same maker as the Jamaican bottle.

But, all of this raises some other points of interest I'd love to get Ed's as well as everyone else to give input on but am unsure if this is the thread to do so even though it poses the perfect opportunity. Let me think on it.

Picking up this old thread to ask if any of you guys know if the Cadenhead Demerara Green Label 1975 bottling is a blended Demerara or a pure Enmore, Uitvlugt or Port M etc? The bottle doesn't say anything else that that it's guyanese demerara rum and the guy in the shop (Cadenhead in Edinburgh) wasn't very informed on their rum collection.
If you have any info on this bottling, please shed some light on this one.
Thanks! :-)

Without specific information about this particular bottle my best guess is that it was bulk rum imported from Guyana, aged and bottled in the UK. This is probably from one still though I can't say which one.

It is also interesting that this bottle clearly states that it was distilled in 1975 but there is no indication of when it was bottled which would give an indication of the age of the rum in the bottle.

Edward:
Thanks, I found this info om the german Cadenhead's website:
http://www.cadenheads.de/product_info.php?cPath=82&products_id=933
So its supposedly 30 years of age.
Haven't found any info on the still though.

They have another bonded in -74 wich is 30 years old as well but that one is cask strength, so I guess I'm going to have to try get a hold of that one now. :)
