I found this great whisky tasting glass from Moet Hennessy's Glenmorangie Whisky.
It has it's own lid to trap the aromas of the whisky. I'm seriously going to have to try and track some of these glasses down.glass.gif

The Ardbeg glass has a lid as well. http://www.specialitydrinks.com/P-2305.aspx

It must have been popular as it has sold out!! The lid looks very similar, maybe it is made by the same company.

You can also order it directly from the Ardbeg website: https://www.ardbeg.com/shop.asp?Cat=17

These glasses seem interesting, I should try to obtain both of them and the Glencairn glass as well.

As I've been getting into rum lately, I'm in need of the right glass to taste with. Obviously there's a lot of different info out there and everyone has a different opinion, but this post got me trying to do some research again.

It seems like this glass with the lid isn't thought very well of for tasting.

*Edit: I just saw that Flare glass from Spirit Sippers again and now I'm very tempted to order a set of those.

We have a set of Flares on the way. Perhaps Spirit Sippers might be persuaded to fashion a lid for the Flare.

Hi Carbon. Just wondering here if you have ever tried a glass with a lid?

You got me; I have not. My idea of the lid was a bit distorted from reality, but I'd still prefer the right glass with no lid to a so-so glass with a lid. I haven't had the chance to compare different rums in different types of glasses back to back as some others have here.

I like nosing a spirit, using the lid, only under certain conditions. For instance, if the aroma is decidedly faint or recessive, a lid helps me to lock on to prominent components. Sometimes, if I swirl the spirit with the lid applied, I can pick out another element after I first remove the lid. But, I am not a big fan of using a lid. But, I must admit that I am not an accomplished taster, though. My philosophy is to keep it simple and replicate how one would drink their spirit at a normal sitting. I beleive that these sort of glasses really shine when you have multiple spirits that are poured for multiple tasters and you are looking to keep the samples "static" until the tasting begins.

I have a set of lidded glasses from Glenmoranjie that most closely resembles the Ardbeg glass. (Included in a Holiday Gift Pack a couple years ago.) Rarely use the lids, but really like the glasses for nosing and tasting. Every time I try a new rum, I always begin with this glass.

Hi,

New to the forum, but work in the whisky industry for LVMH. Ardbeg and Glenmorangie are the same company, the glass is the same just different names for marketing purposes.

They release it in the UK around christmas with bottles in a pack. Will do some research and see where they are available.

I was always under the impression that letting a whiskey breath was the key to its flavour? surely the glass with a lid would effect this?
