Greetings all, first post here on the new forum.

I'm a huge fan of the Dogfish Head Brewery beers out of Maryland and just found out they produce their own distilled spirits on-site. They have a selection of rum, vodka, gin and tequila, though most are available at their restaurants only. I've sent a message to see if there is any possibility of getting something shipped to Texas, no word yet but I'm not optimistic considering all the screwy laws nowadays.

Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone here has had the opportunity to try these or have any additional info.

I'm not expecting anything earth-shattering, but as with beer and cigars I'm always interested in the boutique producers.

I have visited the brewhouse where they make this and tried a bottle of the above....I did not like it at all.....the smell is that of clover...vert strong clover smell....I could not get past the smell and the taste was way too sweet for me as well. They just came out with a regular dark rum which is only available through the distillery which I plan to try this year. IMHO in that price range there are much better rums out there.

It would be illegal for the distiller to ship the distilled spirits to Texas. Texas does not allow ANY category of direct sales, not even at the distillery.

It takes time to make good rum. Dogfish is working hard but you can't rush the aging process. And that's after you get the fermentation and distillation sorted out.

So the current evidence shows!

But that approach may be challenged at the tasting competition next month. After all, the proof is in the pudding... bottle... flavor... RUM! :D

I'm looking forward to the tasting competition but unfortunately, I won't be able to taste the rums until after the competition.

??? I take it that you will NOT be one of the judges? How unfortunate! But you will be there?!?! But I'm sure there will be extra bottles and personal flasks floating around.

So that is why you want 2 bottles of each! One for the competition and one for you. Wise man!

I will be conducting the competition. The two bottles are for the judges. At least a few of the rums are tasted twice to verify the integrity of the judging.

Ahhh! So you are expecting for there to be some left for your personal evaluation. Good, good, good.
