Thank you, Forrest! I am glad I found this site. The knowledge here has already helped me tremendously during my exploration of the world of rum.
Visited another bar in Seattle with a better than usual selection of rum and fine cocktails:
http://www.libertybars.com/
When I ordered some Zaya, the bartender thought I may enjoy Flor de Cana 18 and the Ron Zacapa 23 yo. as well and graciously brought me free tasters of both...such bartenders definitely get good marks in my book. gzzg

I'm staying up here on capital hill right now. What's the best liquor store for finding some rare gems up here? I want to know where to go before I venture out. I'm hoping to pick up something nice to take back down to Portland with me.

Thanks. I ended up going to the one on 12th before checking back here. I bought a bottle of Ron Zacapa 23 since I'd never tried it and couldn't find any in Portland. When I get back from my trip there's a message on my answering machine from the local liquor store here saying they got it in stock and are holding a bottle for me. HMMR

I am glad you were able to find a bottle of note at the store! If you are still on the Hill, you should check out Liberty bar on 15th. It's about a 15 min walk from the liquor store on 12th and has a good selection of rums not carried by regular bars.

Yeah I read about that place and thought it would be a good place to go. Unfortunately I ended my night out after hopping from different places at Canterbury Ale & Eats. I didn't know until the next afternoon that Liberty was right down the street. I'll have to check it out when I'm back up there.

A family friend has said that Elliot's Oyster House in Seattle has a good rum selection. Upon viewing their website, they claim to have "58 bottles of rum on the wall."
Here's a list (3rd page):

from their website (http://www.elliottsoysterhouse.com/index.cfm).

I ended up visiting Elliot's Oyster House as I mentioned above and they do indeed have quite a selection. One thing that surprised me though was that on the bar they had a bunch of Flare glasses hanging, so it's clear they take their rum seriously there. :p

I've passed by it a few times (it's in the Ballard neighborhood), but I've never been in. It looks popular from the crowds and I've heard good things, so I'll have to try it sometime.

I wish that I would have known about Ministry of Rum while living in Seattle. It seemed to be a challenge sometimes to find a wide-selection of rum in Seattle; although, I remember there being a caribbean restaurant in Belltown that had a wonderful selection of rum! Does anyone know if it is still there? I believe that it was two to three blocks from Cyclops.

Casuelita's Caribbean?

It has 50 kinds of rum. I'll have to check it out.

Sadly the review of Casuelita's was less than sterling. But maybe worth a try to find the rum.
For rum in town to take home, the following three Wa State liquor stores seem the best stocked. Not in order of my preference:
1. Fourth Ave Store, one block south of Safeco Field.
2. First Avenue North store at the foot of Queen Anne hill. One block north of Key Arena.
3. The 15th Avenue store on Crown Heights, just south of the 85th St.
Between these three stores you can, depending on your good fortune, and the moon phase find a reasonable selection of many of the better rums that Washington State carries. I have located Angostura 1824, Pampero, Barbencourt 8&15, Cruzan Single Barrel, Pusser's Navy, Coruba, Cockspur 12, Pyrat cask and XO, Appleton Estate 12, Mateusalem GR, Sea Wynde, and a number of other well regarded rums at these stores. They always have Barrilito 3 star, but forget buying it. It's 50 dollars a bottle, so out of the question to me. Of course, you have to buy premium rums when you see them in this state. Otherwise, you risk a long wait to see them again.

Casualita's was the place I went with the great rum selection. Not a very flattering review - - I had remembered the food being better, but I also remember that my wife and I tried the food after trying the "rum sampler" platter with about 7 different types of rum + 2 cocktails!
Probably the best reason I remember Casualita's well is that we stumbled upon the bar/restaurant completely by accident. We were also visited that afternoon/evening by the Seafair Pirates. As recent transplants from Chicago at the time, it was our first Seafair.
Good memories.

I work about a block and a half from Elliot's and the bartender told me that they'll do tastings that aren't listed as flights on the menu and that they actually have a number of rums in the back that were left behind from various events/parties and aren't part of their regular selection.

This sounds like a place I'm going to have to find on my next trip to Seattle.

It's right on the water downtown. If you're going, let me know. I'll take an extended dinner break from work :).

I go to the Queen Anne store because it's nearest to where I live, but my favorite is the one in University Village. I can find Luxardo Maraschino, Napoleon Mandarine and other unusual liqueurs there.
I'm going to try to go to Casuelita's to check it out this weekend, if I can make it.

I'll try the U store. I live on Queen Anne, by the way. The problem I have with U Village is parking there. But for good, rum, what's a bit of parking hassle?
The 4th Ave store is also very well stocked most of the time, and has a section devoted to better rums. Not the usual shelves with Bacardi, Monarch and the lesser stuff, but a kiosk with rums filling up two end caps on one set of shelves with the more desirable brands.

I just came back from Seattle. After reading over the forums looking for good liquor stores to check out I went to the 4ave store. I was there this past Saturday which happened to be the last day they were at that location. So FYI the 4ave store is now located at 2960 - 4th ave south.
While there I was able to get a bottle of Zacapa 23, Pamperro Aniversario, and Cruzan Blackstrap. All three I have not been able to find in my part of the world but I'd been wanting to try.

There is only a parking issue in the U Village if you only if you go there midday and don't know where the parking garage is. There is a new parking garage located in the Northern Area next to The Ram and Crate N Barrel. In addition, Safeway's parking lot is to the back of the Liquor store, 2 minute walk.

Nice! I am quite familiar with the stores in Seattle and the Eastside (Bellevue/Kirkland), particularly, how accurate the online quantities they list - it is usually not accurate +/- 1 - 2 bottles. Calling first is a good choice from previous experience for stock. The 12th/Pine and Aurora/80th stores also hold a different variety of rums as they special order more frequently.

I'm New to Ministry of Rum and with August 16th being National Rum day - would there be any interest in other Seattle based Rum lovers having a get together for the occasion? If so what would be the best location?
Liberty Bar?
Elliots Oysterhouse?
Causalita's Cafe?
If there is enough interest, I'd be happy to get a Meetup going!
