Hi,

I bought this rum in Playa del Carmen in a recent trip. I wonder if anyone could tell me more about it, the only information I found was an offer on Ebay for an empty bottle for 89.99$ !!! (it was on sale for 17$ on the Fifth Avenue).

More details: it says on the bottle: Anejo 7 anos, Hecho en Cuba por Tecnoazucar, Ciudad Habana

Now before someone tell me 'why don't you just open the bottle and tell us about it', the old me would have already done that. The new me read a post by lord Hamilton that warned slow depreciation of the rum after six months once the bottle is opened. So the new me is currently emptying all opened bottles before opening new ones.

HI Ben, I too bought a bottle in Mexico last week. If you hear any thing let me know and I'll do the same.

I finally opened said bottle during vacation as it was the oldest unopened bottle I had.

Pretty bland rum. Not bad (never had a bad Cuban rum). I seriously doubt the 7 years mention though.

I would rate it as a mixer, somewhere between HC Anejo Reserva and HC7, leaning on the HC AR (please excuse abbreviations, but I'm typing with one hand while holding my three months old girl with the other arm).

Thanks for the comments Ben. It looks like a bottle designed for the tourist market. I've yet to see a Cuban rum in a fancy bottle that exceeded my expectations, but I have high expectations. There are a lot of crazy prices on eBay, I've seen my first edition books on there for more than $750.
