Appleton Tour

Hey y'all, I was just wondering.. I'm going to be visiting Jamaica early September on a cruise (I've mentioned in other threads). I wouuld LOVE to go to the Appleton distillery and take the tour and what not, but i'm not sure if they accommodate to cruise people.. I know that they will pick you up from some hotels in montego bay, but where i'm porting at (ocho rios) is like.. kinda far.. so i'm not sure if it's porssible.. I emailed them to see but I haven't received a response yet.


Do any of you all know about this situation?

If you can do it you should, it is a great day out. It is a long way from Ocho Rios though, but if the ship docks in the morning you should have enough time. The cruiseship website should have a land tour page. There is a new highway from Ocho Rios going west, so it should be quicker these days. The best thing to do is go as early as possible, then have some stops on the way back for lunch, beers or more rum on the way back. I see from your other thread that you were asking for advice on rum there. The Appleton high ends are great as are the Edwin Charley's, especially the 4 in the handblown bottles, they make a great display in any rum collection. But you must try some overproof while you are there, it is the national drink of Jamaica, but make sure you eat well before indulging, it goes well with jerk pork or chicken, another Jamaican must do.

Appleton's will provide lunch, but you must give them advance notice. Also, allow plenty of time to get there - unless the roads have improved in the last five years.

hmm.. yeah .. i've got a bad feeling that I may not have the time on the island for the tour.. :(

We saw many cruise ship passengers at the Appleton Distillery recently, brought to Nassau Valley on buses. Check with your cruise ship director.

One side benefit of going to the middle of the island is that you get away from the tourist spots and see rural Jamaica along the way.

oooooo thats a good point Robert.. I'd love to see the "un-touristy" parts..

My friend/guitar player is also going on the cruise and is going to have quite an adventure in Cozumel, He's just going to take a ferry to the mainland and explore the mayan ruins on his own.. haha.. i hope he doesn't get lost and get stuck down in Mexico.. what a shame that would be! :P

Good news! haha

I couple days ago I emailed Seven Fathoms rum about where to buy their products down there in GC. I just got an email telling me where to go and what not, and the rep actually told me that their distillery is right there within 100 yards of the dock (where my cruise ship will be docking) and if their distilling that day, they could do a tour! muhaha :P
