Cruzan Rums have discontinued thier orange rum. I'm not sure how popular this flavour was for them. The coconut, mango, pineapple and banana are the only ones that sell here.

Not surprising to me. It was very sweet. I had a hard time telling the difference between it and run of the mill triple-sec. I do enjoy some of their other flavors though.
I recently saw they added a guava flavored rum added to their porfolio. I would like to give that a try, when I find it!

Our tasting event on Gifted Rums of the Virgin Islands recently included most of the full line of Cruzan product, including the new guava rum which was judged to be quite interesting. Using it in popular tropical cocktails can add a new refreshing twist to something you're used to. For me, guava is like comfort flavor, since our old folks made guava jelly here in Florida for more than 100 years -- and still do. The aroma of guava juice and sugar cooking is truly intoxicating.

Living in Florida, I'm sure you've been to a Bahama Breeze....
...Have you tried their Ribs which are marinated in a Guava BBQ sauce? So good! If you view guava as comfort foods, gotta try those ribs!

Are these still open in some places? All the ones I've ventured upon in the Midwest in the past six months have all been closed down. Chicago area, Louisville, Indy. They were all gone! I enjoyed that place, hope the whole chain didn't go belly up!

Robert, just got hold of a bottle of the Cruzan Guava, it smells interesting, I'm going to try it later with some sort of juice. Any suggestions?

I have not spent much time with the Cruzan Guava, since the tasting event where we tried about a dozen Cruzan rums. I imagine it would play well in a simple punch.

I'm trying to get my hands on a bottle of the guava. I really like guava, it has a delicate strawberry sort of taste that I find intriguing. I once had some BBQ ribs done with a guava glaze that were out of this world! I need to find that recipe!

It does play very well with others, but by itself it is alright.
Speaking of Cruzan and punch they had the 1.75 of Black Cherry on sale at work for $7ish so 'punched' it and it also worked well.

You mean Cruzan guava?
All those liquor stores up there in Portland and you can't find any? Washington Street Liquors here in Corvallis has it, quite a bit actually.

I lived in Seattle, Wa. from 1998 until 1986 and found Stone's all over the place. I too am surprised it is not down in Oregon..But distribution channels do change. Still, The bloody weather in the Emerald and Rose cities is a great match for a great ginger wine.

Did you call local wine shops or liquor stores? I'll try a couple of wine shops and see if they know anything about it.
Thanks!

Ah...Hah!!! My ever reliable and former British subject wine guy comes through again! It should be at his store by the end of the week. He told me that back in Merry Old England his father would add a touch of it to his Scotch.
I'm looking forward to giving it a try!
Thanks again, I love trying new things!

Sheriff i am glad you found some... i am fairly possitive you will enjoy it.
By, the by it was a random assortment of liquor stores from the internet phone book-- trying to help and ending up perplexed.:D
That recipe your friend mentioned is called a Whiskey Mac, it is a legendary smash hit in English Old Time Bars, but BarNowOn had mentioned it in a previous thread and informed me about a RUM MAC!!! What a wonderful drink!!
Just rum and Stones... That revelation lead me to this cocktail (and the aforementioned guayabera)
"The Darker Storm"
2Parts Corruba (or whatever dark rum you have handy)
1Part Stones Ginger Wine
Juice of 1/4 to 1/2 Lime
[sugar to taste, i don't put any, but. . ]
Shake with ice, Strain into chilled cocktail glass, garnish with 2 brandied cherries.

The distribution of spirits in Oregon can be a little confusing, especially if you are from California. "Liquor Stores" in Oregon sell distilled spirtits only (no beer or wine), beer and wine sales are handled by grocery, convenience stores, or specialty wine shops etc. and they cannot sell distilled spirits. Sounds more confusing than it really is. It is also not quite as restrictive as it seems, we have a ton of boutique distilleries up here doing some very creative things!
Thanks for looking for me. I'm anxious to give it a try.
Cheers
