Hey Bostonians (and New Englanders)! Would any of you be interested in meeting up some time (preferably at a decent bar to enjoy some good rum? Let me know.

I would be, but it's very difficult for me to be available until October.

For sure! That would be great fun - even better if we could find a rum tasting to meet up at... I remember Scottes found one a while ago - anybody hear of any happening around here?

Ed, have you ever thought of doing something in the Boston / NE area? Do you ever have any opportunities or invitations up this way?
That would be great if we could get something going up here!

I talked to Ed about arranging something here, and after looking at what is going on in the rum world, Ed suggested that he is too busy with other stuff to organize anything in Boston in the coming months.
Incidentally, I tasted the Ragged Mountain rum the other day, and it was not particularly good. It was a good rum for half the price, but it was not much, if any better than Mount Gay. *Eclipse, not XO

Too bad... guess it is up to us, then... I spoke with the manager at Federal Wine and Spirits (in downtown Bos) a while ago when I was in there - great little store with a good selection of rums, by the way!- and he was interested in putting together a rum tasting event and bringing in some rum rep folks etc - I asked him to keep me informed, or that i'd be willing to help organize, etc, but have not heard anything form him... maybe we could nudge him a bit and see if he is stil interested. Any other package store that specialize in rum that may be interested that you guys know of? bars?
I was thinking a while ago that we could take a trip out to the Berkshire distillers... but after Scribe's review... maybe not?

It's getting close to October, when my time will become free, and this topic just came up in a conversation through my blog.
Let's start making plans.
I'll throw out October 4 or 5 as a date, since that's the first possible weekend I'll have free.
First, some ideas... The easiest possible way to meet-up would be at a bar with a good rum selection. The only one that I know about is Rumba at the Intercontinental Hotel in Boston. Absolutely fantastic rum selection, somewhat difficult location.
Another is timing... Weekday nights are a pain since we all have day jobs (I assume). Doing this on a Saturday night at a bar is kinda crazy since it will be busy as hell. Does a Saturday afternoon make any sense? A Sunday afternoon or night?
Does anyone else have any ideas for location and time?

Hey all, I'd definitely be interested. Perhaps we can find a bar or restaurant that would allow BYOB? There are a few in Worcester that I know of.

Hi all. Might I suggest a restaurant that allows BYOB? There are a few in Worcester that I know of, I'm sure there are more throughout the state.
Regarding timing, Oct. 4th or 5th would work fine by me.

I am running an adventure relay race in New Hampshire the 4th, but potentially the 5th. Otherwise, the weekend of the 11th-12th I'll either be trying to help summit all the 4000 ft summits in New Hampshire or in Larchmont, NY competing for the Storm Trysail Club Collegiate Cup.

Sorry, but potentially the 5th would be fine. And by running and adventure relay, I mean organize not participate in. I'm part of the medical support team. Last year we had to rescue some grad students from MIT. It was fun. =)
